"Every Good Work"
Christians have the responsibility to preach the good news of the Kingdom and to help interested ones to become disciples. But they are "equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:17) Thus, they lovingly care for their families, show hospitality, and visit the sick. ( 1 Timothy 5:8; Hebrews 13:16) And volunteers are involved in such projects as building Kingdom Halls-a work that also gives a witness. In Togo, after the construction of one hall, the responsible one of a local charismatic church wanted to know why Jehovah's Witnesses were able to construct their own buildings while the church had to hire people for this purpose! Togo reports that the construction of good-quality Kingdom Halls has such a positive effect on the neighborhood that some people try to rent or build houses in localities where halls are going to be built.
Sometimes, another kind of good work is called for. Many lands during the last service year were struck by disasters, and frequently the first on the scene to render aid were Jehovah's Witnesses. For example, much of Honduras was devastated by Hurricane Mitch. Quickly, the branch formed emergency committees to organize relief efforts. Witnesses in Honduras, and many other lands donated clothes, food, medicine, and other basic items. Regional Building Committees used their skills to rebuild houses. Soon, our brothers who were victims of the disaster were being helped to return to their regular activities. In Ecuador, Jehovah's Witnesses came to the aid of their brothers when serious flooding destroyed some homes. After watching the efficient way they had dealt with the situation, a government official said: "If I had this group, I would do marvels! People like you should be in all parts of the world." Such good work brings praise to Jehovah God and is evidence of our "godly devotion [that] is beneficial for all things." -1 Timothy 4:8.

Why You Can Trust the Biblical Gospels
What Can We Conclude?
The four canonical Gospels-Matthew, Mark, Luke and John-were universally accepted among Christians at least as early as the mid-second century. Tatians' widely used Diatessaron (a Greek term meaning 160 and 175 C.E., was based on only the four canonical Gospels and none of the Gnostic "gospels." Also noteworthy is an observation by Irenaeus of the late second century C.E. He asserted that there must be four Gospels, as there are four quarters of the globe and four cardinal winds. Though his comparisons may be questioned, his point supports the idea that there were only four canonical Gospels at the time.
What do all these facts show? That the Christian Greek Scriptures-including the four Gospels-as we have them today have remained largely unchanged from the second century onward. There is no strong reason to believe that there was a conspiracy in the fourth century to change or suppress any part of the divinely inspired Scriptures. On the contrary, Bible scholar Bruce Metzger wrote: "By the close of the second century, . . . a high degree of unanimity concerning the greater part of the New Testament was attained among the very diverse and scattered congregations of believers not only throughout the Mediterranean world but also over an area extending from Britain to Mesopotamia."
The apostles Paul and Peter were champions of the truth of God's Word. Both of them strongly warned fellow Christians against accepting or believing anything other than what they had been taught. For example, to Timothy, Paul wrote: "O Timothy, guard what is laid up in trust with you, turning away from the empty speeches that violate what is holy and from the contradictions of the falsely called 'knowledge.' For making a show of such knowledge some have deviated from the faith." Peter testified: "No, it was not by following artfully contrived false stories that we acquainted you with the power and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, but it was by having become eyewitnesses of his magnificence." -1 Timothy 6:20, 21; 2 Peter 1:16.
Centuries ago, the prophet Isaiah was inspired to say: "The green grass has dried up, the blossom has withered; but as for the word of our God, it will last to time indefinite." (Isaiah 40:8) We can have the same confidence that the One who inspired the Holy Scriptures also preserved them through the ages so that "all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth." -1 Timothy 2:4.

TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO LOVE JEHOVAH
Skillful Parents Pray With Their Children
Your children can learn much about Jehovah by listening to your prayers. If they hear you give thanks to God at mealtimes and offer prayers at Bible study sessions, what conclusions might they draw? They will likely learn that Jehovah supplies our physical needs-for which he should be thanked-and that he teaches us spiritual truths. These are valuable lessons. -James 1:17.
However, if you pray with your family at times other than at meals and family Bible studies and if you discuss specific matters that affect you and your children, you will accomplish even more. You will help your children to feel that Jehovah is part of your family, that he cares deeply about you individually. (Ephesians 6:18; 1 Peter 5:6, 7) One father says: "From the time our daughter was born, we prayed with her. As she grew older, we prayed about relationships issues and other matters that affected her. Until she left home to marry, not a day went by that we did not pray together with her." Could you also pray with your children each day? Could you help them view Jehovah has a Friend, who not only provides their physical and spiritual necessities but also cares about their emotional needs? -Philippians 4:6, 7.
Of course, for you to make your prayers specific, you need to know what is happening in your child's life. Note the comments of one father who raised two children: "At the end of each week, I asked myself two questions: 'What things were of concern to my children this week? And what good things happened in their world? ' " Parents can you ask yourselves such questions and then incorporate some of the answers into the prayers you say with your children? If you do, you will be teaching them not only to pray to Jehovah-the Hearer of prayer-but also to love him. -Psalm 65:2.

"WRITTEN FOR OUR INSTRUCTION"
About the Author
According to the Hebrew Scriptures, God told the nation of Israel: "I am Jehovah;I have not changed." (Malachi 3:6) Some 500 years later, the Bible writer James wrote of God: "With him there is not a variation of the turning of the shadow." (James 1:17) Why, then, does it seem to some that the God revealed in the Hebrew Scriptures is different from the God of the Christians Greek Scriptures?
The answer is that different aspects of God's personality are revealed in different parts of the Bible. In the book of Genesis alone, he is described as feeling "hurt at his heart," as the "Producer of heaven and earth," and as "the Judge of all the earth." (Genesis 6:6; 14:22; 18:25) Do these differing descriptions refer to the same God? They certainly do.
To illustrate: A local judge may be best known by those who have faced him in court as a firm enforcer of the law. His children, on the other hand, may view him as the loving generous father that he is. His close friends may find that he is an approachable man with a good sense of humor. The judge, the father, and the friend are all the same person. It is just that various aspects of his personality become apparent under different circumstances.
Similarly, the Hebrew Scriptures describe Jehovah as "a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in loving-kindness and truth." Yet, we also learn that "by no means will he give exemption from punishment." (Exodus 34:6, 7) Those two aspects reflect the meaning of God's name. "Jehovah" literally means "He causes to become." That is, God becomes whatever is needed to fulfill his promises. (Exodus 3:13, 15) But he remains the same God. Jesus stated: "Jehovah our God is one Jehovah." -Mark 12:29.

Following God's Way Leads to Success
The psalmist further describes the successful man as being "like a tree planted by streams of water." The streams of water may have referred to irrigation ditches that were used to water trees in orchards. (Isaiah 44:4) Daily reading of the Bible is like being attached to such an unfailing source of sustenance and refreshment. (Jeremiah 17:8) You will daily receive the strength you need to bear up under trials and difficulties. Having learned Jehovah's thinking, you will have the wisdom you need to make wise decisions.
At times, serving Jehovah may seem difficult. But never feel that it is too difficult to handle. (Deuteronomy 30:11) The Bible promises you that 'everything you do will succeed' in the long run, as long as your main objective is to please Jehovah and make his heart rejoice! (Proverbs 27:11) And remember, you do not have to go it alone. You have the support of Jehovah and Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:20; Hebrews 13:5) They know the pressures you face, and they will never abandon you. (Psalm 55:22) You also have the backing of "the whole association of brothers" and of your parents if they are God fearing. (1 Peter 2:17) With such backing, along with your determination and effort, you can enjoy a successful life not only now but eternally!

YOUTHS-RESIST THE SPIRIT OF THE WORLD
Conclusion of Showing "A Different Spirit"
Avoiding harmful recreation will not condemn you to a joyless life. We worship a "happy God," who wants you to enjoy your youth! (1 Timothy 1:1; Ecclesiastes 11:9) But the Bible warns: "He that is loving merriment [ "entertainment," lamsa] will be an individual in want." (Proverbs 21:17) Yes, if you make recreation the most important thing in your life, you will suffer spiritual want. So follow Bible principles in your choice of recreation. There are many ways to enjoy yourself that will build you up and not tear you down. - Ecclesiastes 11:10.
Showing modesty in your dress and grooming, rejecting the world's fads will also mark you as different. (Romans 12:2; 1 Timothy 2:9) So will being selective in your choice of music. (Philippians 4:8, 9) "I have music that I know I'm supposed to throw out," confesses one young Christian, "but it sounds so good!" Another young man similarly admitted: "For me music is a pitfall because I love it. If I find out something is wrong with it, or if my parents call it to my attention, I really have to force my mind to take command over my heart because in my heart I love that music." Youth, do not be "ignorant of {Satan's ] designs"! (2 Corinthians 2:11) He is using music in an effort to turn young Christians away from Jehovah. Articles have appeared in Watchtower publications discussing rap, heavy metal and alternative rock music. However, Watchtower publications cannot possibly comment on every new form and style of music that might come along. You must, therefore, use "thinking ability" and "discernment" when you select music. -Proverbs 2:11.
Finally, you must keep morally clean. The Bible urges: "Flee from fornication." (1 Corinthians 6:18) The original Greek word for fornication, por-nei'a, refers to all illicit sexual activity involving the use of the genital organs carried on outside the bonds of marriage. That would include oral sex and the deliberate fondling of sexual organs. A number of Christian youths have engaged in such behavior, imagining that they really were not committing fornication. However, God's Word clearly says: "This is what God wills, the sanctifying of you, that you abstain from fornication; that each one of you should know how to get possession of his own vessel in sanctification and honor." -1Thesalonians 4:3, 4.

The Mystery of ILL HEALTH
Little Owmadji is sick with Diarrhea. Hawa, her mother is worried about dehydration; she heard that her cousin back in the village had recently lost her baby that way. Owmadji's grandmother, Hawa's mother-in-law, wants to take Owmadji to a tribal witch doctor. "A wicked spirit is making the child sick," she says. "You refused to give her an amulet to wear for protection, and now the problems are starting!"
THIS Scene is common in many parts of the world. Hundreds of millions believe that wicked spirits are the hidden cause of illness. Is this true?
Creating the Mystery
You personally may not believe that unseen spirits cause disease. In fact, you may wonder why anyone would think so, for scientists have shown that most diseases are caused by viruses and bacteria. Remember, though, that humankind did not always know about these tiny pathogens. It was not until the development of the microscope by Antonie van Leeuwenshoek in the 17th century that the microscopic world became visible to the human eye. Even then, it was only thanks to Louis Pasteur's discoveries in the 19th century that science began to understand the relationship between pathogens and disease.
Since the causes of sickness were unknown for most of human history, many superstitious ideas developed, including the theory that all ailments are caused by evil spirits. The New Encyclopedia Britannica suggests one way that this could have developed. It says that early healers tried to treat the sick with different types of roots, leaves and whatever else was at their disposal. At times, something worked. then the healer would add to the healing therapy a lot of superstitious rites and practices, which served to conceal the real cure. thus the healer made sure that people would have to continue using his services. In this way, medicine became shrouded in mystery, and people were encouraged to look to the supernatural for help.
These traditional healing methods live on in a number of lands. Many say that sickness is caused by the spirits of dead ancestors. Others say that God makes us sick and that illness is a punishment for our sins. Even when informed people understand the biological nature of sickness, they may still fear supernatural influences.
Sorcerers and traditional healers use this fear to exploit people. What, then, should we believe? Does it help to look to the spirits for health care? What does the Bible say?

"SALVATION BELONGS TO JEHOVAH"
"Gentle Toward All"
As world conditions deteriorate in these "critical times," feelings of patriotism are likely to intensify. (2 Timothy 3:1) May those who love God never forget that salvation belongs only to Jehovah. he deserves exclusive devotion. When asked to do something out of harmony with Jehovah's will, Jesus' apostles said: "We must obey God as ruler rather than men." -Acts 5:29.
"A slave of the Lord does not need to fight," wrote the apostle Paul, "but needs to be gentle toward all." ( 2 Timothy 2:24) Thus, Christians endeavor to be peaceable, respectful and gentle as they rely on their Bible-trained conscience in making personal decisions regarding flag salute and the singing of a national anthem.

"SALVATION BELONGS TO JEHOVAH"
AT TIMES, of national crisis and international tension, people look to their government for safety and security. Governments for their part step up programs designed to rally the support of the populace. The more the feeling of patriotism is fostered by such programs, the more spirited and frequent become the observances of patriotic ceremonies.
During a national emergency, patriotic fervor often gives people a sense of unity and strengthen and may promote a spirit of cooperation and civic-mindedness among them. However, "patriotism is as volatile as any emotion," states an article in the New York Times Magazine, since "once released, it can assume ugly forms." Expressions of it may take a turn that can encroach on the civil liberties and religious freedom of certain citizens of the country. True Christians particularly come under pressure to compromise their beliefs. How do they conduct themselves when such an atmosphere engulfs the world around them? What Scriptural principles help them to act with insight and to maintain integrity to God?

KEEP PRACTICING THE THINGS YOU HAVE LEARNED
RELIGION is Gaining Ground, but Morality is Losing Ground." This headline in the newsletter Emerging Trends summarized the results of a nationwide poll in the United States. Evidently, that country has seen an increase in the number of people who attend church and say that religion holds and important place in their life. However, the report says: "Despite these impressive figures, many Americans clearly question the impact religious faith is having on individual lives and society as a whole."
This situation is not unique to just one country. Throughout the world, many people who say that they accept the Bible and are religious are not letting the Scriptures exert any real influence in their life. (2 Timothy 3:5) "We still hold the Bible in high regard," stated the head of our research group," but in terms of actually spending time reading it, studying it and applying it-that is a thing of the past." With genuine Christians, however, the situation is different. The application of counsel from God's Word has brought about changes in their thinking and conduct. And their new personality that they display is readily noted by others. (Colossians 3:5-10) For followers of Jesus,the Bible is not an unused book that gathers dust on a shelf. On the contrary, the apostle Paul told Christians in Philippi: "The things that you learned as well as accepted and heard and saw in connection with me, practice these; and the God of peace will be with you." (Philippians 4:9) Christians do more than accept the truth of God's Word. They act on what they learn, continually, on the job, in the congregation and in all other areas of life.
Putting God's laws and principles into practice is not easy. We live in a world that is under the power of Satan the Devil, whom the Bible calls "the god of this system of things." (2 Corinthians 4:4; 1 John 5:19) Therefore, it is essential to be on guard against anything that would hinder us from pursuing a career of integrity to Jehovah God. How can we be integrity keepers?

What Can Be Done About Discouragement?
Discouragement and Relationships
Certain human relationships, either in the family or in the congregation can cause discouragement. For instance, there is the feeling of not being understood. The imperfections of fellow believers may also discourage us. Once again, the Scriptures can be of great help to us.
"The whole association of brothers" worldwide makes up a large spiritual family. (1 Peter 2:17) But the feeling of belonging to a united people can fade when difficulties arise because of personality conflicts. Evidently, first-century Christians were not immune to such problems, since the apostle Paul repeatedly had to remind them to live together in unity. For example, he exhorted two Christian women-Euodia and Syntyche-to resolve their differences. -1 Corinthians 1:10; Ephesians 4:1-3; Philippians 4:2, 3.
If this is the problem, how can we rekindle a sincere love for our brothers and sisters? By reminding ourselves that Christ died for them and that they, like us, have exercised faith in his ransom sacrifice. We can also bear in mind that many of our brothers are prepared to imitate Jesus Christ by risking their lives for us.
Some years ago, in Paris, France, a young Witness did not hesitate to grab hold of a suitcase containing a bomb that had been put outside the Kingdom Hall. He ran down several flights of stairs before throwing it into a fountain, where it exploded. Asked what motivated him to risk his life in this way, he answered: "I realized that our lives were in danger. So I thought it was better for me to die alone that for all of us to be killed." What a blessing it is to have such companions who are ready to follow Jesus' example so closely!
Additionally, we can meditate on the spirit of cooperation that existed among Jehovah's Witnesses who were in the concentration camps during World War II. More recently, our brothers and sisters in Malawi just as faithfully stood their ground as true Christians. Does not the thought that our brothers in the local congregation would act in the same way under adverse circumstances move us to overlook or at least minimize daily tensions and difficulties? If we cultivate the mind of Christ, our everyday relations with fellow worshipers will be a source of refreshment, not discouragement.

"Jehovah Himself Gives Wisdom"
When "Knowledge Itself Becomes Pleasant"
Personal study of the Bible-as essential requirement for seeking wisdom-is not necessarily a pleasant prospect for many people. For example, 58-year old Lawrence says: "I have always worked with my hands. Studying is hard for me." And 24-years old Michael, who did not enjoy studying in school says: "I had to force myself to sit down and study." Yet, a desired to study can be cultivated.
Consider what Michael did. He relates: "I disciplined myself to study for a half hour every day. Soon I could see the effect on my attitude, my comments at Christian meetings, and my conversations with others. Now I look forward to my study periods, and I hate to have anything interfere with them." Yes, personal study becomes an acquired taste when we see the progress we make. Lawrence too applied himself to Bible study and, in time, came to serve as an elder in a congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
To make personal study and enjoyable experience requires consistent effort. The benefits, though, are great. "When wisdom enters into your heart and knowledge itself becomes pleasant to your very soul," says Solomon, "thinking ability itself will keep guard over you, discernment itself will safeguard you." -Proverbs 2:10, 11.

REMEMBER YOUR GRAND CREATOR!
JEHOVAH gives his servants strength to do his will. (Isaiah 40:28-31) This is true regardless of their age. But young people dedicated to God should especially want to use their youth and strength wisely. Therefore, they take to heart the counsel of "the congregator," King Solomon of ancient Israel. He urged: "Remember, now, your Grand Creator in the days of you young manhood, before the calamitous days proceed to come, or the years have arrived when you will say: 'I have no delight in them. ' " -Ecclesiastes 1:1; 2:1.
Solomon's admonition about remembering the Grand Creator during youth was first directed to young men and women of Israel. They were born into a nation dedicated to Jehovah. What about the children of dedicated Christians today? Surely, they should bear their Grand Creator in mind. If they do so, they will honor him and will benefit themselves. -Isaiah 48:17, 18.

Searching for Jehovah With a Prepared Heart
Love-The Greatest Quality
More than all other qualities, love truly makes the soil of our heart responsive to Jehovah's Word. Thus, when comparing it with faith and hope, the apostle Paul described love as "the greatest of these " qualities. (1 Corinthians 13:13) A heart filled with love for God gets intense satisfaction and joy from obeying him; it certainly does not chafe at God's requirements. The apostle John said: "This is what the love of God means, that we observe his commandments, and yet his commandments are not burdensome." (1 John 5:3) Along similar lines, Jesus said: " If anyone loves me, he will observe my word, and my Father will love him." (1John 14:23) Note that such love is reciprocated. Yes, Jehovah deeply loves those who are drawn to him in love.
Jehovah knows that we are imperfect and regularly sin against him. Even so, he does not keep himself distant from us. What Jehovah looks for in his servants is "a complete heart," one that moves us to serve him willingly with "a delightful soul ." (1 Chronicles 28:9) Of course, Jehovah knows it takes time and effort for us to cultivate good qualities in our heart and thus to produce the fruitage of the spirit. (Galatians 5:22, 23) Hence, he is patient with us, "for he himself well knows the formation of us, remembering that we are dust." (Psalm 103:14) Reflecting the same attitude, Jesus never severely criticized his disciples for their faults. but patiently helped and encouraged them. Do not such love, mercy and patience of Jehovah and Jesus move you to love them all the more? -Luke 7:47; 2 Peter 3:9.
If you at times find it a struggle to pull up deep-rooted, weedlike habits or to break up pockets of hard, claylike traits, do not become downhearted or discouraged. Instead, keep working at making improvements as you "persevere in prayer," including frequent supplication to Jehovah for his spirit. (Romans 12:12) With his willing help, you will, like Ezra, succeed in having a heart fully prepared "to consult the Law of Jehovah and to do it."

ARE YOU MOVED TO ACT AS JESUS WAS?
None of us would view the mind of Christ as unique to the first century-to Jesus and the early disciples of whom the apostle Paul wrote: "We do have the mind of Christ." (1 Corinthians 2:16) And we would readily admit that we are obliged to preach the good news and to make disciples. (Matthew 24:14; 28:19, 20) Yet, it is beneficial to reflect on our own motives for doing that work. It should not be out of a mere sense of duty. Love for God is a primary reason why we share in the ministry, and truly being like Jesus includes being moved by compassion to preach and teach. -Matthew 22:37-39.
Granted, it is not always easy to feel compassion for those who do not share our beliefs, especially when we encounter apathy, rejection, or opposition. Yet, if we were to lose our love and compassion for people, we could lose a vital motivation for sharing in the Christian ministry. How, then, may we cultivate compassion? We can try to see people as Jesus saw them, as "skinned and thrown about like sheep without a shepherd." (Matthew 9:36) Does that not describe many today? They have been neglected and blinded spiritually by false religious shepherds. As a result, they do not know of the sound guidance found in the Bible nor of the Paradise conditions that God's Kingdom will soon bring to our earth. They face the problems of daily life-including poverty, family discord, sickness and death- without having the Kingdom hope. We have what they need: "the life-saving good news of God's Kingdom now established in heaven!
When you thus ponder the spiritual needs of those around you, does not your heart move, you want to do all you can to tell them about God's loving purpose? Yes, ours is a work of compassion. When we feel for people as Jesus did, it will be evident in our tone of voice, our facial expression, our manner of teaching. All of that will make our message more appealing to those who are "rightly disposed for everlasting life." -Acts 13:48.
Our love and compassion should, of course, be manifest in our whole life course. This includes our being kind to the disadvantage, sick and poor-doing what we reasonably can to relieve their suffering. It encompasses our efforts in word and deed to dispel the grief of those who have lost loved ones in death. (Luke 7:11-15; John 11:33-35) Yet, such manifestations of love, kindness and compassion must not become the main focus of out good works, as they are with some humanitarians. Of much more lasting significance are efforts motivated by similar divine qualities but manifested in sharing in the work of Christian preaching and teaching. Recall what Jesus said about the Jewish religious leaders: "You give the tenth of the mint and the dill and the cumin, but you have disregarded the weightier matters of the Law, namely, justice and mercy and faithfulness. These things it was binging to do, yet not to disregard the other things." (Matthew 23:23) With Jesus it was not one or the other-either helping people with their physical needs or teaching them the life-giving spiritual matters. Jesus did both. Still, it is clear that his teaching work was foremost because the good he thus accomplished could be of everlasting help. - John 20:16.
How grateful we can be that Jehovah has revealed the mind of Christ to us! By means of the Gospels, we can come to know better the thoughts, feelings, qualities, activities and priorities of the greatest man who ever lived. it is up to us to read , meditate upon, and put into practice what the Bible reveals about Jesus, we must first learn to think, feel, and evaluate matters as he did, to the best of our ability as imperfect humans. Let us, then, be determined to cultivate and demonstrate the mind of Christ. There is no better way to live, no better way to treat people,and no better way for us and others to draw close to the one whom he perfectly reflected, our tender God, Jehovah. -2 Corinthians 1:3; Hebrews 1:

ACQUIRE A HEART AGREEABLE TO JEHOVAH
'Prepare Your Heart To Consult God's Word'
Just as adding the proper supplements may enhance the physical soil, so our cultivating humility, hunger for spirituality, trust, godly fear and love for God can enrich our figurative heart. Humility softens the heart, helping us to become more teachable. Jehovah said to Judean King Josiah: "For the reason that your heart was soft so that you humbled yourself because of Jehovah at your hearing what I have spoken . . .and began weeping before me, I,even I, have heard." (2 Kings 22:19) Josiah's heart was humble and receptive. Humility enabled Jesus' "unlettered and ordinary" disciples to grasp and apply spiritual truths that escaped "wise and intellectual" men. (Acts 4:13; Luke 10:21) May we "humble ourselves before our God" as we try to acquire a heart agreeable to Jehovah. -Ezra 8:21
Jesus said: "Happy are the conscious of their spiritual need." (Matthew 5:3) While we are endowed with a capacity for spirituality, pressures from this wicked wold or such traits as laziness may dull our consciousness of our need. (Matthew 4:4) We must develop a wholesome appetite for spiritual food. Even if at first do not find pleasure in Bible reading and personal study, with persistence we will find that knowledge will 'become pleasant to our very soul,' so that we eagerly look forward to study periods. -Proverbs 2:10, 11.
"Trust in Jehovah with all your heart and do not lean upon your own understanding," admonished King Solomon. (Proverbs 3:5) A heart that is trusting in Jehovah knows that whatever He asks or directs through his Word is always right. (Isaiah 48:17) Jehovah is certainly worthy of our complete trust. He is able to carry out all that he has purposed. (Isaiah 40:26, 29) Why, his very name literally means "He Causes To Become," which builds confidence in his ability to fulfill what he has promised! He is "righteous in all his ways and loyal in all his works." (Proverbs 145:17) Of course, to cultivate trust in him, we need to "taste and see that Jehovah is good" by applying what we learn from the Bible in our personal life and by reflecting upon the good that this produces. - Psalm 34:8.
Pointing to yet another quality that makes our heart receptive to divine guidance, Solomon stated: "Fear Jehovah and turn away from the bad." (Proverbs 3:7) Jehovah said concerning ancient Israel: "If only they would develop this heart of theirs to fear me and to keep all my commandments always, in order that it might go well with them and their sons to time indefinite!" (Deuteronomy 5:29) Yes, those who fear God obey him. Jehovah has the ability "to show his strength in behalf of those whose heart is complete toward him" and to inflict punishment upon those who disobey him. (2 Chronicles 16:9) May reverential fear of displeasing God govern all our activities, thoughts and emotions.
