After a long journey, the sons of Jacob reached Egypt. When they required about purchasing grain, they to a high government official named Zephenath-paneah. (Genesis 41:45) Did they know when they saw him that he was Joseph? No not at all. They saw only a high-ranking Egyptian ruler, who whose help they needed. To show difference, they did what was natural: They "bowed low to him with their faces to the ground." - GENESIS 42:5, 6.
What about Joseph? He recognized his brothers right away! What is more, when he saw them there bowing before him, his thoughts flew back to his boyhood. The account tell us that "Joseph immediately remembered the dreams" that Jehovah had given him when he was but a boy, dreams foretelling a time when his brothers would be bowing before him-exactly as they were now! (Genesis 37:2, 5-9; 42:7,9) What would Joseph do? Embrace them? Take revenge?
