Manna was the Israelites' main food during those 40 years in the wilderness. (Exodus 16:35) Jehovah had also provided quail on two occasions. (Exodus 16:12, 13; Numbers 11:31) However, the Israelites did have a limited amount of other foods to eat.
Note: If you have read the Bible, the Israelites had forgotten how bad they had it in Egypt, they were oppressed slaves that were treated very badly and during that 40 years they complained too often and made Jehovah very angry and that is why that is the main reason why Jehovah made them spend 40 years in the desert. They had forgotten what Jehovah had done for them in spreading the Red Sea so they could walk across on dry land with Pharoah and his army coming after them then Jehovah letting the waters go back and drown all the Egyptian army. They deserved to keep walking in the desert at the time. They also made a gold calf and was worshipping it when Moses was up in the mountain with Jehovah.
For example, Jehovah sometime led his people to a "resting place" that provided some natural supplies to help fill their needs. (Numbers 10:33) One of those places was the oasis at Elim, "where there were 12 springs of water and 70 palm trees"-no doubt date palms. (Exodus 15:27) The book Plants of the Bible states that the date palm, which has a very sensitive geographic range, . ..is the chief food plant of the desert, furnishing food, oil and shelter to millions of people."
