Why True Christians Do Not Use the Cross in Worship

THE cross is loved and respected by millions of people. The Encyclopedia Britannica calls the cross "the principal symbol of the Christian congregation." Nevertheless true Christians do not use the cross in worship. Why not?

An important reason is that Jesus Christ did not die on a cross.  The Greek word generally translated "cross" is stau-ros' means "an upright pole or stake."  The Companion Bible points out:  "[Staur-ros'] never means two pieces of timber placed across one another at any angle. . . . There is nothing in the Greek of the [New Testament] even to imply two pieces of timber.

In several texts, Bible writers use another word for the instrument of Jesus' death. It is the Greek word xy'lon.  (Acts 5:30; 10:39; 10:29; Galatians 3:13; 1 Peter 2:24) This word simply means "timber" or "a stick, club, or tree."

Judgment Day -What Is It? Conclusion

During that thousand-year period, Jesus Christ will "judge the living and the dead." (2 Timothy 4:1) "The living will be the "great crowd" that survives Armageddon. (Revelation 7:9-11) The apostle John also saw "the dead . . . standing before the throne" of judgment. As Jesus promised, "those in the memorial tombs will hear [Christ's] voice  and come out" by means of a resurrection.  (John5:28, 29; Acts 24:15)  But on what basis will all be judged?

According to the apostle John's vision, "scrolls were opened," and the dead were judged out of those things written in the scrolls according to their deeds." (Revelation 20:12)  Are these scrolls the record of people's past deeds?" No, the judgment will not focus on what people did before they died.  How do we know that? The Bible says: "The one who has died has been acquitted of their sin."  ( Romans  6:7) Those resurrected thus come to life with a clean slate, so to speak.  The scrolls must therefore represent God's further requirements. To live forever, both Armageddon survivors and resurrected ones will have to obey God's commandments including whatever new requirements Jehovah might reveal during the thousand years.  Thus, individuals will be judged on the basis of what they do during Judgment Day.

Judgment Day will give billions of people their first opportunity to learn about God's will and to conform to it. This means that a large-scaled educational work will take place.  Indeed, 'the inhabitants of the land will learn about righteousness.' (Isaiah 26:9)  However, not all will be willing to conform to God's will. Isaiah 26:10 says:  "Even if the wicked is shown favor, he will not learn righteousness. Even in the land of righteous he will act wickedly, and he will not see the majesty of Jehovah." These wicked ones will be put to death permanently during Judgment Day.

By the end of Judgment Day, surviving humans will have "come to life" fully as perfect humans.  (Revelation 20:5) Judgment day will thus see the restoration of mankind to its original perfect state.  (1 Corinthians 15:24-28) Then a final test will take place. Satan will be released from his imprisonment and allowed to try to mislead mankind one last time.  (Revelation 20:3, 7-10) Those who resist him will enjoy the complete fulfillment of the Bible's promise:  "The righteous will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it."  (Psalm 37:29) Yes, Judgment Day will be a blessing to all faithful mankind!

Judgment Day - What Is it?

HOW do you picture Judgment Day?  Many think that one by one, billions of souls will be brought before the throne of God.  There, judgment will be passed on each individual.  Some will be rewarded with heavenly bliss, and others will be condemned to eternal torment.  However, the Bible paints quite a different picture of this period of time. God's Word portrays it, not as a terrifying time, but as a time of hope and restoration.

At Revelation 20:11, 12, We read the apostle John's description of Judgment Day:  "I saw a great white throne and the One seated on it. From before him the earth and the heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and scrolls were opened.  But another scroll was opened; it is the scroll of life. The dead are judged out of those things written in the scrolls according to their deeds." Who is the Judge described here?

Jehovah God is the ultimate Judge of mankind. However, he delegates the actual work of Judging. According Acts 17:31,  The apostle Paul said that God "has set a day on which he purposes to judge the inhabited earth in righteousness by a man who he has appointed."  This appointed Judge is the resurrected Jesus Christ.  (John 5:22)    When, though, does Judgment Day begin? How long does it last?

The book of Revelation shows that Judgment Day beings after the war of Armageddon, when Satan's system  on earth will be destroyed.  (Revelation 16:14, 16; 19:19, 20)  After Armageddon, Satan and his demons will be imprisoned in an abyss for a thousand years. During that time, the 144,000 heavenly joint heirs will be judges and will rule  "as kings with the Christ for 1,000 years.(Revelation 14:1-3, 20:1-4; Romans 8:17) Judgment Day is not some hurried even lasting a mere 24 hours. It last a thousand years.

What Is the Battle of Armageddon? / The Bible's Answer: Conclusion

Will Armageddon be the end  of the world?  It will not be the end of our planet, since the earth is mankind's eternal home. (Psalm 37:29; 96:10; Ecclesiastes 1:4)  Rather than destroying humanity, Armageddon actually saves it, because  "a great crowd" of  God's servants will survive. - REVELATION 7:9, 124;  PSALM 37:34.

Note: God's servants meaning those who worship the true God,   Jehovah God (which is his name, only back hundreds or longer of years ago, false Christians took it out of the Bible)  and not the traditional one; who celebrate Christmas, Thanksgiving etc, false Christians think they worship.  This celebration of pagan and made up holidays is not worshipping the true God is worshipping holidays.  The true God and Jesus Christ did not celebrate any holidays or birthdays.  Read the Bible.  Also,  the Bible says that during this time of the resurrection, Jesus and Jehovah will give the ones are dead a chance to bring him into their life for good.  Those who do will live.

Besides referring to the earth, though, the word "world" in the Bible sometimes refers to wicked human society opposed to God. (1 John 2:15-17) In this sense, Armageddon will broing "the end of the world/wicked system of things." - MATTHEW  24:3, King James Version.

When will Armageddon take place?  When discussing the "great tribulation" that culminates in the battle of Armageddon, Jesus said: "Concerning that day ad hour nobody knows neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father." (Matthew 24:21, 36)  Nevertheless, the Bible does show that Armageddon takes place during Jesus' invisible presence, which began in 1914. - MATTHEW 24:37-39.

What Is the Battle of Armageddon?/The Bible's Answer: Continued

Will Armageddon literally be fought in the Middle East? No. Rather than being restricted to one area, the battle of Armageddon will encompass the whole earth. - JEREMIAH 25:32-34; EZEKIEL 39:17-20.

Armageddon, sometimes rendered "Har-Meghiddohn) means "Mountain of Megiddo." Megiddo was once a city in the territory of ancient Israel.  History tells of decisive battles that were fought  in its vicinity, including some that are recorded in the Bible.  (Judges 5:19, 20; 2 Kings 9:27; 23:29)  However, Armageddon cannot refer to the literal area near ancient Megiddon.  There is no large mountain there, and even the entire adjoining Low Plain of Israel could not contain all those who will fight against God.  Instead, Armageddon is the worldwide situation in which the nations assemble in their last stand against rule by God.

What will conditions be like during the battle of Armageddon? While we do not know how God will use his power, he will have at his disposal weapons such as those he used in the past-hail, earthquake, flooding, downpour, fire and sulfur, lightning, and disease.  (Job 38:22, 233; Ezekiel 38:19, 22; Habakkuk 3:10, 11; Zechariah 14:12)  In confusion, at least some of God's enemies will kill each other, yet, they will ultimately realize that it is God who is fighting against them. - EZEKIEL 38:21, 23; ZECHARIAH 14:13.

What Is the Battle of Armageddon

The Bible's answer

The battle of Armageddon refers to the final war between human governments and God.  These governments and their supporters oppose God even now by refusing to submit to his rulership.  (Psalm 2:2)  The battle of Armageddon will bring human rulership to an end.- DANIEL 2:44.

AMEN! To that, Yeah! 😁😁👍🙏

The word "Armageddon" occurs only once in the Bible, at Revelation 16:16. Pr0phetically, Revelation  shows that at "the place that is called Hebrew Armageddon," "the kings of the entire inhabited earth" will be gathered "together to the war of the great day of God the Almighty." - REVELATION 16:14.

Who will fight at Armageddon?  Jesus Christ will lead a heavenly army to victory over God's enemies.  (Revelation 19:11-16, 19-21) These enemies include those who oppose God's authority and who treat God with contempt. - EZEKIEL 39:7.

Why Does God Allow Evil and Suffering?

How can we choose God as our Ruler?

We can choose God as our Ruler by seeking out and practicing true worship based on God's Word, the Bible.  (John 4:23) We can reject Satan as our ruler by keeping out of politics and war, as Jesus did. -Read JOHN 17:14.

Satan uses his power to promote immoral, harmful practices. When we reject such practices, some friends and relatives may ridicule or oppose us.  (1 Peter 4:3, 4) So we face choice. Will we associate with people who love God? Will we obey his wise and loving laws?  If we do, we prove that Satan lied when he claimed that under pressure no one would do as God says. - Read 1 CORINTHIANS 6:9, 10;15:33.

God's love for mankind guarantees that evil and suffering will end. Those who demonstrate that they believe this will enjoy life on earth forever. Read JOHN 3:16.

Why Does God Allow Evil and Suffering?

Why has God allowed suffering until now?

3. For a limited time, Jehovah has allowed rebellion against his sovereignty. Why? To show that without Jehovah ruling the earth right now is not beneficial for the people, that Satan has made a mess of this world as long as Satan is ruling it, it will remain a mess with man-made corrupt government.  (Ecclesiastes 7:29; 8:9) After 6,000 years of human history, the evidence is clear.  Human rulers have failed  to eliminate war, crime, injustice, or disease. - Read JEREMIAGH 10:23; ROMANS 9:17.

In contrast to human rulership, God's rule benefits those who accept it.  (Isaiah 48:17, 18) Soon, Jehovah will bring all human government to a end. Only people who choose to be ruled by God will inhabit the earth. - ISAIAH 11:9; Read DANIEL 2:44.

What does God's patience allow us to do?

4. Satan claimed that no one would serve Jehovah out of unselfish love. Would you like to disproved that lie?  You can! God's patience allows all of us to show whether we favor rule by God or rule by man.  We indicate our choice by the way we live.  Read JOB1:8-12; PROVERBS 27:11.

Why Does God Allow Evil and Suffering?

1. How did evil begin?

Evil began on earth when Satan told the first lie.  Satan was originally a perfect angel, but "he did not stand fast in the truth." (John 8:44)  He developed a desire for worship that rightly belongs only to God. Satan lied to the first woman, Eve, and persuaded her to obey him instead of God. Adam joined Eve in disobeying God. Adam's decision led to suffering and death. - Read GENESIS 3:1-6, 19.

When Satan suggested that Eve disobey God, he was starting a rebellion against God's sovereignty, or position as Most High.  The majority of mankind have joined Satan in rejecting God as their Ruler. Thus, Satan has become "the ruler of the world. " - Read JOHN 14:20; 1 JOHN 5:19.

Note: God decided to send Satan to earth to prove that Satan was and is not a good ruler, and God has been proved right that Satan is a lousy ruler and God will be able to keep his sovereignty with his faithful and discreet servants who worship, trust, work for him  preaching and teaching the truth to everyone, nation, tribe, and tongue.

2. Was God's creation defective?

All of God's works are perfect. The humans and angels whom God created were capable of obey9ing God perfectly. (Deuteronomy 32:4, 5)  God created us with the freedom to choose between doing good or doing evil. That freedom gives us a  way to express our love for God. -Read JAMES 1:13-15; 1 JOHN 5:3.

Who Was Abraham? - His Legacy

Abraham is far more than a religious or historical figure from the distant past.  To this day, his story lives, providing a rich example for all of us to imitate.  (Hebrews 11:8-10, 17-19)  Let us consider four of the good qualities that Abraham displayed. We will begin with what is perhaps his best-known quality-faith.

Originally, Abraham was known as Abram and his wife was known as Sarai.  Later, God changed Abram's name to Abraham, meaning "Father of a Multitude," and he changed Sarai's name to Sarah, meaning "Princess." (Genesis 17:5, 15)  For simplicity, in this series of articles, we will refer to them as Abraham and Sarah.

Who Was Abraham? -Conclusion of His Life

* When Abraham was 99 years old and Sarah was nearing 90, Jehovah promised that they would have a son.  That seemed impossible from a  human standpoint, but Abraham and Sarah soon learned that nothing is "too extraordinary for Jehovah." (Genesis 18:14)  One year later, at the age of 100, Abraham became father to a son, whom he named Isaac.  (Genesis 17:21; 21:1-5) God specifically promised that through Isaac, great blessings would come to mankind.

* A number of years later, Jehovah made a very unusual request of Abraham: He asked Abraham to sacrifice his beloved son Isaac, although the young man was unmarried and had no children. Though the prospect of losing his son must have pained him, Abraham prepared to obey and offer Isaac as a sacrifice. Abraham firmly believed that God had the power to resurrect Isaac, if necessary, in order to make His promise come true. (Hebrews 11:19)  At the crucial moment when Abraham was about to offer up his son, God intervened sparing Isaac's life. He commended Abraham for his outstanding obedience. Jehovah then repeated his earlier promise to Abraham. - GENESIS 22:1-18.

* After 175 years of life, Abraha fell asleep in death.  He "died in a good old age," says the Bible, adding that he was "old and satisfied." (Genesis 25:7, 8) Abraham thus experienced the fulfillment of another promise by God-namely, that he would enjoy a long life before dying in peace. - GENESIS 15:15.

Who Was Abraham? - His Life

Abraham lived a full and exciting life, one that was often challenging but never meaningless. Consider just a few of the things he experienced,

* While Abraham was living in Ur, God directed him to leave the land of his birth and head out to a land that He would show him. Although Abraham and Sarah did not know all the details-where they were going or why God was asking them to leave-they obeyed.  Abraham and Sarah eventually came to dwell in tents in the land of Canaan, living as sojourners for the rest of their lives. - ACTS 7:2, 3; HEBREWS 11:8, 9, 13.

While Abraham  and Sarah were still childless, Jehovah promised to make a great nation out of Abraham.  Jehovah added that all the families of the earth would be blessed by means of Abraham.  (Genesis 11:30; 12:1-3)  Jehovah later affirmed that promise.  He told Abraham that his offspring would become numerous, like the stars of heaven. - GENESIS 15:5, 6.

Who Was Abraham?- His Background

Born in the year 2018 B.C.E., Abraham grew up in Ur.  (Genesis 11:27-31) Ur was a large and prosperous city. It was also steeped in idol worship. Abraham's father, Terah may have been among those who worshipped various idols. (Joshua 24:2)  Yet, Abraham chose to direct his worship solely to Jehovah rather than to the lifeless idols of other gods.

What moved Abraham to make that decision?  Well, his life overlapped that of Noah's son Shem by 150 years.  If he associated with that much-older man, how might he have been affected?  Abraham could have learned firsthand from Shem what it was like to survive  the global Flood. He may also have learned the importance of worshipping Jehovah, the God who had preserved Shem and his family through that Deluge.

Whether it was through Shem or by some other means, Abraham responded favorably to what he learned about the true God.  When Jehovah, "the examiner of hearts," observed Abraham, he saw something good in the man-and he helped to make the good grow. - PROVERBS 17:3; 2 CHRONICLES 16:9.

Who Was Abraham?

FEW men have had greater impact on the world's religions. Revered by Jews, Muslims, and Christians alike, Abraham has been described as "a giant in Scripture" and as "a towering example of faith."  The Bible calls him "the father of all those having faith." - ROMANS  4:11.

Why is Abraham so highly regarded?  For one thing, Abraham has the distinction of being the only person whom the Bible directly refers to as God's friend-and three times at that! - 2 CHRONICLES 20:7; ISAIAH 41:8; JAMES 2:23.

In other ways, however, Abraham was an ordinary person like us. He faced many of the same struggles that we do- and he met them successfully.  Would you like to know how he did so?  Consider what the Bible reveals about this remarkable man.

Show Your Appreciation for Unseen Treasures - HEAVENLY SUPPORT FOR OUR MINISTRY

How can we show our appreciation for the privilege of "working together" with God, Christ, and the angels?  We can do so by zealously seeking opportunities to share the good news with others. There are numerous ways to do this, such as by Witnessing "publicly and from house to house." (Acts 20:20) Many also enjoy informal witnessing.  When they meet a stranger, they greet him in a friendly manner and try to start a conversation. If the person respond favorably, they tactfully introduce the Kingdom message.

As "God's fellow workers,"   we must not only plant seeds of truth but also water them.  When an individual shows interest, we want to do our best to follow up on it or to arrange for someone else to contact that person with a view to starting a Bible study. As the study progresses, we rejoice when we see how Jehovah works on the heart and mind of a potential disciple.

Consider the example of Raphalalani, a tradional healer in South Africa.  He loved what he learned from his Bible study. But he faced a big challenge when he read what God's Word says about communicating with dead ancestors.  (Deuteronomy 18:10-12)  Gradually, he allowed God's Word to mold his thinking. And in time, he quit his practice as a witch doctor, though this mean the loss of his livelihood.  Raphalalani, who is now 60 years old, says: "I am very thankful to Jehovah's Witnesses for assisting me  in so many ways, such as helping me to find employment.  Most of all, I am thankful to Jehovah for helping me to clean up my life, so that now I can share in the ministry as one of his baptized Witnesses."

In this article, we have considered four unseen treasures. The greatest one of all is the privilege of having Jehovah as our closest Friend.  That enables us to benefit from the other unseen treasures-approaching him in prayer, experiencing the help of his holy spirit, and receiving heavenly support in our ministry.  May we be determined to deepen our appreciation for these unseen treasures. And may we never stop thanking Jehovah for being such a wonderful Friend.

Show Your Appreciation for Unseen Treasures - HEAVENLY SUPPORT IN OUR MINISTRY

We have the unseen treasure of "working together" with Jehovah and the heavenly part of his organization.  (2 Corinthians 6:1) We do so whenever we share in the disciple-making work.  Paul said of himself and those who share in this work: "We are God's fellow workers." ( 1 Corinthians 3:9)  When we participate in the Christian ministry, we are also Jesus' fellow workers.  Recall that after commanding his followers to "make disciples of people of all the nations,"  Jesus said: "I am with you." (Matthew 28:19, 20)  And what about the angels? What a blessing it is to be directed by angels as we declare "everlasting good news . . . to those who dwell on the earth"? - REVELATION 14:6.

With such heavenly support, what is being accomplished?  As we sow the Kingdom message, some seeds fall on receptive hearts and grow.  (Matthew 13:18, 23)  Who causes those seeds of truth to grow and become fruitful?  Jesus explains that no man can become  his follower unless "the Father . . . draws him." (John 6:44)  The Bible gives specific examples of this. Recall the occasion when Paul witnessed to a group of women outside the city of Philippi. Note what the Bible says about one of them, a woman named Lydia:  "Jehovah opened her heart wide to pay attention to the things Paul was saying." (Acts 16:13-15)  Like Lydia, millions of other have been drawn by Jehovah.

Who really is responsible for any success we have in the ministry? Paul answers that question when he wrote these words about the Corinthian congregation: "I planted, Apollos watered, but God kept making it grow, so that neither is the one who plants anything nor is the one who waters, but God makes it grow." (1 Corinthians 6:&)  Like Paul, we should always give credit to Jehovah for any success enjoyed in the ministry.

Show Your Appreciation for Unseen Treasures - THE GIFT OF HOLY SPIRIT

God's active force is another unseen gift we should treasure.  Jesus urged us to keep praying for holy spirit.  (Luke 11:9, 13) By means of his spirit, Jehovah gives us power-even "power beyond what is normal." (2 Corinthians 4:7; Acts 1:8)  With the help of God's spirit, we can endure any trial we may be facing.

Holy spirit can help us to handle our assignments in God's service. God's spirit can enhance our talents and abilities. It enables us to carry out our Christian responsibilities. We can honestly attribute the good results of our efforts, not to ourselves, but to the help of God's spirit.

Another way to show that we value God's holy spirit is by praying that it will help us detect any wrong thoughts or desires in our heart. (Read Psalm 139:23, 24). If we make such a request, Jehovah, through his spirit, can make us aware of wrong thinking or inclinations. And if we become aware of a wrong thought or desire, we should pray for God's spirit to give us the strength to resist such a thought or desire. Thus we show that we are determined to avoid doing anything that would cause Jehovah  to stop helping us with his holy spirit. - EPHESIANS 4:30.

We can deepen our appreciation for holy spirit by reflecting on what that spirit has accomplished in our day. Before Jesus ascended to heaven, he told his disciples:  "You will receiver power when the holy spirit comes upon you, and you will be witnesses of me . . . to the most distant part of the earth." (Acts 1:8)  These words are being fulfilled in a wonderful way.  With the backing of holy spirit, some eight and a  half million worshippers of Jehovah have been gathered from every corner of the earth. Also, we enjoy a spiritual paradise because God's spirit helps us to cultivate  beautiful qualities,  such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, and self-control.  These qualities make up "the fruitage of the spirit." (Galatians 5:22, 23) What  a precious gift holy spirit is!

Show Your Appreciation for Unseen Treasures - THE GIFT OF PRAYER

Another unseen treasure is prayer. Close friends enjoy sharing thoughts and feelings with each other. Is that true of our friendship with Jehovah? Yes! Jehovah speaks to us through his Word. and in it he reveals to us his thoughts and feelings.  We communicate with him in prayer, and we can share with him our deepest thoughts and feelings. Jehovah not only listens to our prayers but also answers them.  Sometimes the answer comes quickly.  At other times we may have to keep praying about a matter.  Still, we can be confident that the answer will come at the right time and in the best way. Of course, God's answer may be different from we expect.  For example, rather than remove a trial, he might give us the wisdom and strength "to endure it." - 1 CORINTHIANS 10:13.

How can we show our appreciation for this priceless gift of prayer? One way is by heeding the divine counsel to "pray constantly." (1 Thessalonians 5:17) Jehovah does not force us to pray. Instead, he respects our free will and urges us to "persevere in prayer." (Romans 12:12)  So we can  show our appreciation by praying often throughout each day.  Of course, we should include in our prayers expressions of thanks and praise to Jehovah. - PSALM 145:2, 3.

The longer we serve Jehovah and experience his ways he answers our requests, the deeper our appreciation for prayer should become.  Take, for example, Chris, a brother who has been in full-time service for the past 47 years.  "How pleasurable it is to have a time slot  early in the morning to linger in prayer to Jehovah,"  he says. "What a refreshing experience it is to talk to Jehovah as the first rays of sun cause the dewdrops to sparkle!  This move sus to thank him for his gifts, including the privilege of prayer.  Then after praying at the end of the day, what a pleasure it is to go to sleep with a clean conscience.

Show Your Appreciation for Unseen Treasures - FRIENDSHIP WITH jEHOVAH

The greatest unseen treasure is friendship with Jehovah God. (Psalm 25:14)  How is it possible for God to  make friends with sinful humans and remain completely holy? He can do so because the ransom sacrifice of Jesus "takes away the sin of the world" of mankind.  (Note: that sacrifice is for the chance of having hope of everlasting life in God's new world. But we have to have God and Jesus Christ in our lives etc. in order for that to happen. But we still sin.  Hard to explain for anyone to understand. )  (John 1:29) Jehovah knew in advance that is his purpose to provide a Savior for mankind would not fail. That is why God could befriend humans who lived before Christ died. - Romans 3:25.

Consider some pre-Christian men who became friends of God. Abraham was a man who showed outstanding faith.  Over 1,000 years after Abraham's death, Jehovah called him "my friend." (Isaiah 41:8) So not even death can separate Jehovah from his close friends. Abraham is alive in Jehovah's memory.  (Luke 20:37, 38)  Another example is Job. Before an assembly of the angels in heaven, Jehovah spoke confidently about Job. Jehovah called him "an upright man of integrity, fearing God and shunning what is bad." (Job 1:6-8) And how did Jehovah feel about Daniel, who served God faithfully in a pagan land for about 80 years? Three times angels assured that aged man that he was "very precious to God.  (Daniel 9:23; 10::11,  19) We can be certain that Jehovah longs for the day when he will resurrect his beloved friends who have died. - JOB 14:15.

How many imperfect humans today enjoy a close friendship with Jehovah? There are  millions.  We know this because so many men, women, and children earth wide are proving their conduct that they want to be God's friends. Jehovah's "close friendship is possible because of  their faith in Jesus' ransom sacrifice. On that basis, Jehovah kindly allows us to dedicate ourselves to him and get baptized.  When we take these important steps we join the millions of dedicated baptized Christians who are enjoying "close friendship"  with the greatest Person in the universe!

How can we show that we treasure God's friendship?  Like Abraham and Job, who remained faithful to God for well over a hundred years, we must remain faithful-no matter how long we have been serving Jehovah in this old system. Like Daniel, we must value our friendship with God more than life. (Daniel  6:7, 10, 16, 22) With Jehovah's help, we can endure any trials we may face and thus keep  our close bond with him. - PHILIPPIANS 4:13.

Show Your Appreciation for Unseen Treasures

"Keep [your] eyes . . . on the things unseen. For the things seen are temporary, but the things unseen are everlasting." - 2 CORINTHIANS 4:18.

NOT all treasures can be seen. In fact, the greatest treasures are unseen. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus mentioned heavenly treasures that are vastly superior to material possessions.  Then he added this truth:  "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:19-21) Our heart will moved us to pursue the things we treasure, or value highly. We store up "treasures in heaven" by gaining a good name, or standing, with God. Such treasures, Jesus explained, can never be destroyed or stolen.

The apostle Paul urges us to "keep our eyes . . . on the things unseen." (Read 2 Corinthians 4:17, 18)  These unseen things are treasures that included the blessings we will enjoy in God's new world. In this article, we will examine four unseen treasures that we can benefit from right now-friendship with God, the gift of prayer, the help of God's holy spirit, and heavenly support we have in our ministry. We will also consider how we can show we appreciate these unseen treasures.

Do You Appreciate God-Given Gifts? - Making the Bible Available in African Languages

By the year 1800, printed copies of the Bible in whole or in part were available in some 70 languages, but very few of those languages were spoken in Africa. At the time, the African Bantu languages did not have a written form. Things changed when individuals, such as William Boyce from England, went to Africa and lived with people who spoke unwritten languages. Boyce helped to develop a written form of Xhosa, and he, along with others, translated the Gospel of Luke into that language. Published in 1833, this Gospel contained God's name in all the same places that it ow appears in the New World Translations. Boyce also discovered the key to the complex grammatical rules that govern not only the Xhosa languages but also the complete Bantu-language family.  This opened the way for translators to produce the Bible in many African languages. Today, the Bible or portions of it are available in over 1,000 African languages. Clearly, Jehovah wants people from every nation to have this gift! - ACTS 10:35.

We can prove  that we appreciate the Bible by reading it each day, meditating on what it teaches, and doing our best to apply what we learned. In addition, we show our gratitude to God by doing all we can to share its message with as many people as  possible. - PSALM 1:1-3; MATTHEW 24:14; Read MATTHEW 28:19, 20.

So far we have considered such God-given gifts as our home, the earth, our amazingly designed brain; and God's inspired Word, the Bible. But there are other gifts that Jehovah has given us that are invisible to our eyes. These unseen treasures will be discussed in the next article.

Do You Appreciate God-Given Gifts? - OUR UNIQUE BRAIN

The Bible a unique gift from God.  Our heavenly Father inspired men to write it because he cares greatly for his earthly children.  By means of the Bible, Jehovah answers the most important questions we could ask, such as: Where did we come from? What is the purpose of life? And what does the future hold?  Jehovah wants all his children to learn the answers to those questions, so throughout the centuries he has moved men to translate the Bible into many languages.  Today, the whole Bible or portions of it are available in over 3,000 languages! The Bible is the most widely translated and distributed book in history. No matter where people live or what language they speak, most have the opportunity to learn the Bible's message in their mother tongue.

Do You Appreciate God-Given Gifts? - Conclusion of OUR UNIQUE BRAIN

Our capacity to remember  is amazing.  In the past, one author estimated that the human brain has the ability to remember information that would fill the equivalent of 20 million books. Now, however, it is thought that our memory capacity is much larger. What unique ability do humans have?

Among all the creatures on earth, only  humans have the ability to learn moral lessons by remembering and analyzing past events. As a result, we can adopt better values and change our way of thinking and living. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Colossians 3:9, 10) In fact, we can train our conscience to recognize the difference between right and wrong. (Hebrews 5:14)  We can learn to show love, compassion, and mercy. And we can develop; a healthy sense of justice.

One way we prove that we appreciate the gift of memory is by choosing to remember all the times that Jehovah has helped and  comforted us in the past.  This will build our confidence that he also help us in the future. (Psalm 77:11, 12; 78:4, 7)  Another way us by remembering the good things that other people who are grateful are more likely to be happy. We also do well to imitate Jehovah regarding the things he chooses to forget. For example, Jehovah has a perfect memory, but if we are repentant, he chooses to forgive and forget the mistakes we make.  (Psalm 25:7; 130:3, 4 ) And he wants us to do the same for others when they are sorry for mistakes they make that hurt us. - MARK 6:14; LUKE 17:3, 4.

We can show appreciation for the marvelous gift of our brain by using it to honor the One who gave it to us.  Some choose to use their brain for selfish purposes-to set their own standards of right and wrong.  But because Jehovah created us, it is only reasonable to expect that his standards are better than any standards we could set for ourselves.  (Romans 12:1, 2)  When we live by his standards, our life is peaceful.  (Isaiah 48:17, 18) And we gain a clear purpose for living-to bring to our Creator and Father and make him proud of us. - PROVERBS 27:11.

Do You Appreciate God-Given Gifts? - OUR UNIQUE BRAIN

The human brain is a marvel of engineering. When you were in your mother's womb, your brain was built  according to a preset plan, and thousands of new brain cells were constructed every minute. Researchers estimate that an adult's brain contains close to 100 billion special cells called neurons.  These cells have been efficiently assembled into a package that weighs about 3.3 pounds (1.5 km).  Consider just a few of the brain's amazing abilities.

Our ability to speak is a miracle. Think for a moment about the mechanics of speaking. With each word you say, your brain has to coordinate  the movement of some 100 muscles in your tongue, throat, lips, and chest.  All those muscles  have to move according  to precise timing if the words are to be understood. Regarding the ability to speak languages, a study published in 2019 showed that newborn babies can pick out individual words. This finding reinforces what many researchers believe-that we are born with the ability to recognize and learn languages. Certainly, our ability to speak is a gift from God. - EXODUS 4:11.

One way we can show that we appreciate our gift of speech is by explaining our belief in God to those who wonder why we do not accept the teaching evolution. (Psalm 9:1; 1 Peter 3:15)  Those who promote that doctrine would have us believe the earth and all life on it came about by accident.  Using the Bible and some of the points we discussed in this article we can defend our heavenly Father and explain to those who are willing to listen by we are convinced that Jehovah is the Creator of heaven and earth. - PSALM 102:25; ISAIAH 40:25, 26.

Do You Appreciate God-Given Gifts? - Jehovah's Gifts of the Water Cycle

FRUITS,  VEGETABLES, AND FLOWERS

Rain makes plants grow, giving us food to eat. Most plants also produce flowers for our enjoyment

BEAUTY AND ENJOYMENT

Rivers, lakes, and waterfalls beautify the earth and bring us enjoyment

OTHER BENEFITS

The water  cycle has other benefits. For instance, the evaporation of seawater produces salt

DAILY USE

We drink water and use it to make other drinks, such as lemonade, coffee, and tea. We also use water for cooking, cleaning, and bathing

How can we develop appreciation for our amazing planet and all that it supplies? (Read Psalm 115:16) One way is by meditating on the things Jehovah has made. That will motivate us to thank Jehovah reach day for the good things he gives us. And we show that we appreciate the earth by keeping the part of it where we live as clean as possible.

Do You Appreciate God-Given Gifts? -OUR UNIQUE PLANET

God's wisdom is clearly seen n the way he  constructed our home, the earth. (Romans 1:20; Hebrews 3:4)  Ours is not the only planet that orbits the sun, but the earth is unique because it has all of the right conditions to sustain human life.

In some respects, the earth  is like a boat floating in the vast ocean of space. But there are key differences between a man-made boat, full of people, and our earth. For example, how long would the occupants of a literal boat survive if they had to produce their own oxygen, food, and water if they could throw any waste products overboard? The people in that boat would soon die. In contrast, the earth supports billions of living creatures.  It produces all the oxygen, food, and water we need, and we do not run out of those vital supplies. Its waste produces are not ejected into space; yet, the earth remains beautiful and habitable. How is that possible?  Jehovah designed the earth with the ability to recycle resources. We will briefly look at two of these brilliantly designed cycles, the oxygen cycle and the water cycle.

Oxygen is a life sustaining gas that is used by some living things, including us. It has been estimated that living creatures breathe in a hundred billion tons of oxygen in a year.  These same creatures breathe out a waste product called carbon dioxide.  (Note. by the way, we also breathe it out; so when we have those masks on, we are breathing that gas back in and it  is not good for us) Yet, these living creatures never consume all the oxygen, and the atmosphere never becomes choked with the "waste" gas, carbon dioxide. Why not? Because Jehovah also created organisms -from large trees to tiny algae-that take in carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. In a very literal way, the oxygen cycle confirms the words recorded at Acts 17:24, 25: "God . . . gives to all people life and breath."

Water in liquid form exists on earth because our planet is located at the perfect distance from the sun. If it were just a little closer, all the water would boil off, leaving a hot, lifeless rock. If the earth were a little further away, all the water would freeze, turning the earth into a giant ball of ice.  Because Jehovah placed the earth at this ideal location, the earth's water  cycle can sustain life.  The sun heats water in the oceans and on the earth's  surface and evaporates the water to form clouds.  Each year, the sun evaporates nearly 120,000 cubic miles (500,000 cu km) of water.  This water stays in the atmosphere for about ten days before falling as rain or snow. The water eventually makes its way back to the oceans or other bodies of water, and the cycle is repeated. This efficient, sustainable cycle proves that Jehovah is both wise and powerful. - JOB 36:27. 28; ECCLESIASTES 1:7.

Do You Appreciate God-Given Gifts?

"How many things have you done, O Jehovah my God, your wonderful works and your thoughts toward us." - PSALMS 40:5.

JEHOVAH is a generous God. Think of some of the gifts he has given us: our beautiful and unique home, the earth; our marvelously designed  brain; and his precious Word, the Bible. By means of these three gifts, Jehovah has given us a place to live, he has granted us the ability to think and communicate, and he has answered the most important questions we could ask. - Read PSALM 40:5.

Note: Don't forget he also gave us life, he could have gotten rid of us like the bad corrupt immoral people in the Great Flood of Noah's Day, because no one after them, other than Noah and his family were any better than the ones before us.  And he gave us that hope of everlasting life on a new beautiful paradise earth when the time comes. All we need to do is bring God into our life to make our life better and us better people.  Believe it or not we do put on the new personality and that is better. The fact that we who have God in our life also have the feeling of  security and inner peace. You can't ask for a better life than to have one with God.  By the way, If you really look at all the creations he has made; that is the real art. The landscapes, animals, mountains, waterfalls, etc. There is no better art and a wonder God-Given gift it is as well!

In this article, we will briefly consider those three gifts.  The more we meditate on them, the more we will appreciate them and the stronger our desire will be to please our loving Creator, Jehovah.  (Revelation 4:11)  We will also be better equipped to help those who have been misled by the false doctrine of evolution.

Mildness- How Does It Benefit Us? - "HAPPY ARE THE MILD-TEMPERED"

Mildness  helps us to get along better with others. Those who are quick to take offense end up with few friends. Mildness, however, help us to "maintain . . . the uniting of peace.  (Ephesians 4:2:, 3) Cathy quoted earlier, says, "Mildness has given me the power to make every encounter with another person a bit more pleasant, even though some people are difficult to deal with."

Mildness brings inner peace.  The Bible associates  "the wisdom from above" with mildness and peace. (James 3:13, 17)  A mild person has a "calm heart." (Proverbs 14:30) Martin, who has worked hard to develop the quality of mildness, observes,  "I am now more flexible and less aggressive and I enjoy more inner peace and happiness."

True., we may have to struggle to develop a mild spirit. "To be honest," says one brother,  "even to this day, I boil inside with anger on some occasions." But Jehovah, who encourages us to pursue mildness, will help us through this struggle.  (Isaiah 41:10; 1 Timothy 6:11)  He can 'finish our training'; he can 'make us strong.'  (1 Peter 5:10) In time, like the apostle Paul, we can reflect ""the mildness and kindness of the Christ." - 2 CORINTHIANS 10:1.

Mildness- How Does It Benefit Us? - "HAPPY ARE THE MILD-TEMPERED"

Jesus pointed out that mildness plays a significant role in our  happiness.  "Happy are the mild-tempered," he said. (Matthew 5:5) Note how mildness helps in the following situations.

Mildness defuses tension in marriage.  "I have said a lot of hurtful things to my wife that I didn't mean," admits Robert, a brother from Australia.  "But rash words spoken in anger cannot be withdrawn.  I felt so bad when I saw how bad I hurt her."

"We all stumble many times" in our speech, and out thoughtless words can threaten marital peace. (James 3:2)  On such occasions, mildness helps us to remain calm and control out tongue.  - PROVERBS 17:27.

Robert worked hard to develop calmness and self-control. What has been the result?   "Nowadays, whenever a disagreement arises, I make a conscious effort to listen carefully, to speak mildly, and not to let myself get upset," he says.  " My relationship with my wife is so much better.

Mildness - How Does It Benefit Us? - Conclusion of THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF MILDNESS

Jesus left the matters in God's hands.  Jesus accepted unjust treatment while he was on earth. He was misunderstood, despised, and tortured.. Even so, he remained mild-tempered  because he "entrusted himself to the One who judges righteously." (1 Peter 2:23) Jesus knew that his heavenly Father would care for him and deal with the injustices at the right time.

If we get angry an try to fight   personal injustice, we could easily overact and make things worse. That is why the Scriptures remind us: "Man dos not bring about God's righteousness. ( James 1:20)  Even if our anger is justified, imperfection may lead us to react in a wrong way.

A sister in Germany name Cathy used to think, 'If you don't stand up for yourself, no one else will.' But when she learned to trust Jehovah, her attitude changed.  " I no longer need to be on the defensive," she says,  "I feel free to act mildly, knowing that Jehovah has everything under perfect control."  If you have been a victim of injustice, following Jesus' example of trusting in God will also help you to maintain a mild spirit.

Mildness - How Does It Benefit Us?- Continue with THE PERFECT EXA,MPLE OF MILDNESS

If someone made a thoughtless comment about your race, sex, or background, why not make the effort to respond mildly? Peter, a Christian elder in South Africa says:  "When I find myself irritated by what someone says, I ask myself, 'How would Jesus react?'" He adds: "I have learned not to take myself too seriously."

Jesus understood human weakness.   Jesus' disciples had good intentions, but sometimes their imperfect nature hindered them from carrying out their good intentions.  For example, the night before Jesus died, Peter, James, and John failed to give him the emotional support he requested.  Jesus recognized that "the spirit, of course, is eager, but the flesh is weak." (Matthew 26:40, 41)   Thanks to this insight, Jesus did not get irritated with his apostles.

Mandy is a sister who used to be very demanding, but now she tries hard to imitate Jesus' example  of mildness. She says, "I try to accept human imperfection in all its facets and to see the positive in others, something that Jehovah certainly sees."  Could Jesus' compassionate view of human weakness also help you to deal mildly with others?

Mildness - How Does It Benefit Us?- THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF MILDNESS

Despite his heavy responsibilities and busy schedule, Jesus was mild-tempered toward all. Many in his day were struggling and loaded down, and they needed refreshment. How comforted they must have felt when Jesus said to them: "Come to me, . . . for I am mild-tempered and lowly in heart"! - MATTHEW 11:28, 29.

How can we cultivate the mildness that Jesus displayed? We study God's Word to learn how Jesus interacted with people and handled difficult situations.  Then, we face situations that test our mildness, we strive to act like Jesus.  (1 Peter 2:21) Consider three factors that helped Jesus to be mild.

Jesus was humble at heart.  Jesus said that he was both "mild-tempered and lowly in heart." (Matthew 11:29)  Note: don't forget he was also perfect, so it wasn't as hard for him.   The Bible mentions these two qualities together because mildness is closely connected with humility.  (Ephesians 4:1-3) Why is that so?

Humility helps us to avoid taking ourselves too seriously or becoming overly sensitive. How did Jesus respond to those  who unjustly criticized him for being "a glutton" and "given to drinking wine"?  He let his example stifle the criticism, and he mildly pointed out  that "wisdom is proved righteous by its works."- MATTHEW 11:19.

Mildness - How Does It Benefit Us? - WHAT IS MILDNESS?

Mildness is an inner, peaceful disposition. A mild person deals with others in a gentle, kind way and is able to face life's irritations with calmness and self-control.

Mildness is a sign of inner strength. The Greek word for "mildness" was used to describe a wild horse that has been tamed.  The strength of the horse remains, but patient training has bridled its raw power. Likewise, when we display mildness, we tame our unruly nature and deal peaceably wit others.

'I am not a mild person by nature,' we may think. We do live in a world where aggression and impatience are common, so we may find it a challenge to display a mild spirit. (Romans 7:19)  Clearly, it requires effort to cultivate mildness, But Jehovah's holy spirit will help us to strengthen our resolve to reach our goal. (Galatians 5:22, 23)  Why should we make the effort to cultivate mildness?

Mildness is a quality that attracts people.   As Sara, quoted above, observed, we feel relaxed in the company of a mild-tempered person.  Jesus is an outstanding example of a mild and kind person.   (2 Corinthians 10:1)  Even children who hardly know him wanted to be close to him. - MARK 10:13- 16.

Mildness protects us as well as those around us.   If we are mild, we do not quickly get frustrated or react angrily.  (Proverbs 16:32) We thus avoid feelings of guilt that arise after we hurt someone-especially a person whom we love. And mildness protects those around us from suffering because of our unrestrained spirit.

Mildness - How Does It Benefit Us?

"I am a timid person by nature," explains Sara, "and I don't have a lot of self-confidence. So I feel  uncomfortable when I am with people who have a strong, aggressive personality. But I feel relaxed when I am with someone who is mild and  humble.  I can open up to that sort of person, share my feelings, and discuss my problems.  My best friends are like this."

Sara's comments reveal that mildness endears us to fellow humans. Mildness also pleases Jehovah. His Words exhorts us: "Clothe yourselves with . . . mildness.: (Colossians 3:12) What is mildness? How did Jesus show mildness? And how can this quality make our lives happier?

Who Is "the King of the North" Today? - WILL YOUR NAME BE "WRITTEN IN THE BOOK"?

We can face the future with confidence because both Daniel and John confirm that those who serve Jehovah and Jesus will survive this unparalleled time of distress. Daniel says that the survivors will have their names "written in the book." (Daniel 12:1)  How do we get out name in that book? We must give the evidence that we have faith in Jesus.  The Lamp of God..  (John 1:29) We need to get baptized in symbol of our dedication to God.  (1 Peter 3:21) And we must show support  for God's Kingdom by doing what we can to help others to learn about Jehovah.

Now is the time to build trust in Jehovah and his organization of loyal servants. Now is the time to support God's Kingdom. If we do, we will be saved when the king of the north and the king of the south are destroyed by God's Kingdom.

Who Is "the King of the North" Today? - WHAT WILL THE KING OF THE NORTH DO IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

A prophecy recorded by Ezekiel gives some insight into what may happen during the last days of the king of the north and the king of the south. If we view the prophecies of Ezekiel38:10-33; Daniel 2:43-45; 11:44-12:1; and Revelation 16:13-16, 21)  as speaking about the same time period and events. It appears that we can expect the following developments.

Sometime after the start of the great tribulation, "the kings of  the entire inhabited earth" will form a coalition of nations.  (Revelation16:13, 14; 19:19) That coalition becomes what the Scriptures call "Gog of the land of Magog." (Ezekiel 38:21) That coalition of nations will make one final all-out assault on God's people. What will provoke the attack? Speaking of this time, the apostle John saw a storm of unusually large hailstones raining down on God's enemies. The symbolic hailstorm may take the form of a hard-hitting judgment message delivered by Jehovah's people. It could be that this message provokes  Gog of Magog into attacking God's people with the intention of wiping them off  the earth. - REVELATION 16:21.

This hard-hitting message and the final attack by God's enemies may be the same events referred to at Daniel 11:44, 45. (Read) There, Daniel says that "reports out of the east and out of the north" disturb the king of the north, who goes off in "a great rage." The king of the north intends "to devote many to destruction."  The "many" referred to seem to be the Jehovah's people.  Daniel may here be describing the final all-out  assault on God's people.

This attack by the king of the north, acting along with the rest of the world's governments provokes the Almighty and brings on the war of Armageddon.  (Revelation 16:14, 16) At that time, the king of the north, along with rest of the nations that make up Gog of the Magog, comes to his end, and there will be "no helper for him." - DANIEL 11:45.

The very next verse in Daniel's account gives more details about how the king of the north and his allies will come to their end and how we will be saved. (Daniel 12:1.) What does this verse mean? Michael is another name for our ruling King, Christ Jesus. He has been "standing in behalf" of God's people since 1914. when his Kingdom was established in the heavens. In the near future, he will "stand up," or take significant action, at the war of Armageddon. That battle will be the final event in what Daniel calls the greatest "time of distress" in history.  John's prophecy recorded in Revelation refers to the time leading up to this battle as "the great tribulation." - REVELATION 6:2; 7:14.
