IMITATE THEIR FAITH/ENOCH /"He Had Pleased God Well"

ENOCH had lived a long time.  It might be hard for us to imagine, but that man's life stretched back some 365 years - more than four very long life spabns by today's standards!  But he was not truly old, not in the world of his time. Back then, some 50 centuries ago, people lived far longer than they do today. Adam, the first man, had living over six hundred yaers when Enoch was born, and Adam lived on another three centuries!  Some of Adam's descendants lived even longer than that.  So at 365, Enoch may still have looked fairly vibrant, like a man who had much of his life left ahead of him.  In fact, though, he did not.

Enoch was very likely in grave danger.  Picture him on the run, unable to put out of his mind the reaction of people to who had recently spoken a message from God.  Their faces were twisted with rage. Those people hated him.  They despised his message, and they loathed the God who had sent him.  They could not strike  out at Enoch's God, Jehovah, but they could certainluy strike at this man!  Perhaps Enoch wondered if he would ever see his family again. Did he think of his wife and daugthers of of his son Methuseleh or of his grandsom Lamech? (Genesis 5:21-23, 25)  Was this the end?

Enoch is a somewhat mysterious figure in the Bible record.  Only three short Bible passages deal with him at any length.  (Genesis5:21-24; Hebrews 11:5; Jude 14, 15)  However, those verses provide, in effect, enough brushstrokes to paint a picture of a man with great faith.  Do you proved for a family?  Have you ever faced the struggly of standing up for what you know to be right? You may learn from the faith of Enoch

HOW I HAVE BENEFITED

Developing a friendship with Jehovah saved my life.  Tony and I have also experienced Jehovah's support through difficult times. We have learned to rely on God through difficulties, and we feel that he has always helped and sustained our family. - PSALM 55:22.

I have taken delight in helping our son and daughter get to know Jehovah as I do. Now I feel similar joy as I see their children also growing in knowledge of God.

I no  longer lie awake at night worrying about the future or death.  Tony and I are fully occupied with traveling to different congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses each week to encourage them.  We join them in teaching others that if they exercise faith in Jesus, they too can enjoy everlasting life.

HOW THE BIBLE CHANGED MY LIFE

Meanwhile, Tony had also been studying the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses. As the Witnesses answered his questions from the Bible, he too became convinced of the truth of what he was learning.  He made major changes in his life; he withdrew from  his previous violent associates, stopped his petty criminal activities, and gave up smoking marijuana.  In order to please Jehovah fully, we also both saw the need to adjust our immoral way of life and provide a stable environment for our son. We were married in 1982.

I remember searching out articles in Watchtower and Awake! magazines wiht stories of  people who had successfully mad the changes I wanted to make.  I was so encouraged by their examples! I felt strengthened to keep trying hard and not give up. I kept praying to Jehovah not to give  up on me.  Tony and I were baptized as Jehovah's Witnesses in July 1982.

HOWTHE BIBLE CHANGED MY LIFE

Jehovah's Witnesses expressed genjuine love toward me.  When  I first attended  one of their meetings, the atmosphere was warm and inviting-everyone was so friendly! (John 13:34, 35)  That was a big contrast to the treatment I had received at a local church.  The Witnesses welcomed me despite my circumstances. They gave me time, care, and attention, as well as much practical help.  I felt as though I were a part of a big, loving family.

From my Bible study, I realized that I would have to make changes in my life to meet God's high moral standards. I did not find it easy to stop smoking tobacco. At the same time, I recognized that  certain music increased my desire to smoke marijuana, so I changed the music that I listened to.  Wanting to stay sober, I stopped going to parties  and nightclubs where I would be tempted to get drunk.  And I sought out new friends whose positive influence would help me in my new lifestyle. - PROVERBS 13:20.

HOW THE BIBLE CHANGED MY LIFE

I first met Jehovah's Witnesses while I was livinv at a hostel for unmarried mothers and their babies.  I had been given a room there by the local authorities.  Two female Witneses regularly visited some of the other  young mothers.  One day I joined a discussion with them.  I intended to prove the Witnesses wrong. Yet, they answered each one of my many questions calmly and clearly from the Bible.  They were so kind and gentle, which I found very appealing.  So agreed  to study the Bible with them myself.

I soon learned something from the Bible that changed my life. Ever since I was  young, I had feared dying. Yet now I discovered Jesus' teaching about the resurrection!  (John 5:28, 29) Also, I learned that God cared about me personally. (1 Peter 5:7)  I was especially touched by the words of Jeremiah 29:11, which says: "For I well know the thoughts that I am thinking toward you, declares Jehovah,  'thoughts of peace, and not of calamity, to give you a future and a hope."'   I began to believe that I could have the hope of living forever in Paradise on earth. - PSALM 37:29.

THE BIBLE CHANGES LIVES -I Did Not Want to Die! /As told by Yvonne Quarrie

I became very curious about the occult.  I tried to talk to the dead, visited graveyards with school friends, and watched horror movies with them. We thought it was both exciting and frightening at the same time.

I started to go wayward when I was only ten years old. I began smoking tobacco, and I quickly became addicted. Later, I progressed to smoking marijuana.  By the age of 11, I was experienting with alcholo. Although I did not like the taste of it, I liked the effect of getting drunk. I also loved music and dancing. I went to parties and nightclubs whenever I could. I used to sneak out at night and sneak back in again just before the morning light.  Tired the next day, I regularly played hooky from school.  When I did attend I drank alcohol between lessons.

I received very poor grades in my final year at school. Mostly unaware of the extent of my wayward behavior, my mother was diappoibnted and angry. We quarreled, and I ran awayt from home.  For awhile I stayed with my boyfriend, Tony who  was Rastafarian. He was involved in petty crime and selling drugs and had a reputation for being extremely violent. I soon became pregnant and, at just 16 years of age, gave birth to our son.

MY PAST

I was born in Paddington, a densely populated area of Londpon, England.  I lived with my mother and three older sisters.  My fath er came in and out of our lives as a result of his problems with alcohol

When I was a child , my mother taught me to pray every night.  I had a small Bible containing jsut the Psalms, and I made upt unes so that I could sing them.  I remember reading a phrase in one of my secular books that stuck in my mind:  "Someday there will be no tomorrow."  Those words made lie awake at night thinking about the future.  'Surely there must be more to life,' I thought.  'Why am I here?' How Can the Bible Improve My Life

A young couple in Asia greatly appreciated the value of the Bible's  advice.  Like many newly married couples, they struggled with adjusting to each other's personality and with having open communication.  But they began applying what they read in the Bible.  With what result?  The husband Vincent, says: "What I read in the Bible helped me to deal with challenges in our marriage in a loving way.  Living by the Bible has given us a happy life together"  His wife, Annalou, agrees:  "Reading examples in the Bible helped us.  I bow feel happy and content with our marriage and our goals in life."

Getting to know God.  Aside from his comments about marriage, Vincent also says: "By reading the Bible, I feel much closer to Jehovah now than ever before." Vincent's observation focuses on an important point-the Bible can help you to get acquainted with God.  In doing so,  you will only benefit from his advice but also find that you can get to know him as a friend.  And you will see that he reveals details about a better future, a time when you can enjoy  "the real life"-which will last forever.  ( 1 Timothy 6:19)  That is something that no others book can offer.

If you set out to read the Bible and keep at it, you too can gain those benefits-improving your life now and getting to know God.   However, as you read the Bible, you will likely think of numersous questions. And when you do, keep in mind the good example of an Ethiopian official who lived 2,000 years ago. He was full of questions about the Bible. When asked if he understood what he was reading, he replied:  "Really, how could I ever do so unless someone guided me?"  He then eagerly accepted help from someone who was already a qualified Bible teacher, Philip, an early disciple of Jesus.  (Acts 8:30, 31, 34)  In the same spirit, if  you would like to know more about the Bible, we invite you to submit a request online at www.jw.org  or write to the nearest address, as listed in this magazine. You may also contact Jehovah's Witnesses near you or visit a Kingdom Hall in your area.  Why not pick up a Bible today and let it guide you to a better life?

HOW TO GET MORE FROM READING THE BIBLE - What Will Make It Interesting?

Boring?  Or refreshing?  What will Bible reading be for you?  Much depends on how you approach your reading.  Let us take a look at what you can do to increase your interest and enjoyment.

Select a reliable, modern-language translation.   If you read material  that contains  a great many difficult or out-of-date words that you do not know, you are not likely to enjoy reading it. So look for  a Bible that is easy-to-understand language that will touch  your heart.  At the same time, though, it should be carefully and accurately translated."

Use modern technology.  Today the Bible is available not only as a bound, printed book, but also as a digital book. Some Bibles can read online or downloaded for personal reading on computers, tablets or cell phones.  Certain versions include additional tools that allow you quickly to check other Bible verses on the same topic or even compare several translations.  If you prefer to listen rather than to read, the Bible is also available in recorded form.  Many people enjoy listening while they commute by public transportation, do laundry, or engage in some other activity that permits listening. Why not try a method that suits you?

HOW TO GET MORE FROM READING THE BIBLE -How Can I Get Started?

Pray before you read. The Bible contains God's thoughts, so it is not surprising that we need his help to understand it.  God promises to give "holy spirit to those asking him."(Luke 11:13)  The holy spirit can help you understand God's thinking.  In time, it will open your mind to grasp  "even in the deep things of God." - 1 CORINTHIANS 2:10.

Read to understand.  Do not read just to cover material. Actively think about what you are reading. Ask yourself such questions as these:  'What qualities do I see in the person I am reading about?  How can I apply this in my  life?'

Set specific goals.  To be rewarded by your Bible reading, set out to learn something that will truly enrich your life.  You may set goals like the following:  'I want to learn more about God himself.' 'I want to become a better person, a better husband or wife.' Then select portions out of the Bible that will help  you reach those goals.

These five suggestions will help you get started. But how might you make your reading even more interesting?  The next article offers some suggestions.

What approach will help you to enjoy your Bible reading and get the most out of it?  Take note of the suggestions that have worked out for many.

Create the right surroundings.  Try to find a setting that is quiet.  Minimize distractions so you can focus on what you read.  Good lighting and fresh air may help you to get the most from your reading.

Have the right frame of mind.   Since  hte Bible if from our heavenly Father, you will benefit the most ifyou have the attitude of a child who is ready to learn from a loving parent.  If  you have any negative. preconcieved ideas about the Bible, try to set them aside so that God can teach you. - PSALM 25:4.

Understanding the Bible - What Are the Keys?

 Things you don't need

1. Hight Intellect or education.  Jesus' 12 apostles undcrstood the Scriptures and taught them to others even though the 12 apostles were considered by some  to be  "unlettered and ordinary." - ACTS 4:13.

2. Money. You can learn what the Bible teaches without cost.  Jesus told his disciples:  "You received free, give free." - MATTHEW 10:8.

4. Study by topic.  A topicals study, in which you analyze what the Bible says about a particular topic or subject, is an effective way to learn what the Scriptures teach.  Start with  "the beginning lessons," as it were, and then "go forward to more mature (advanced) teaching." (Hebrews 6:1, 2, East to read Version) You'll find that you can compare scripture with scripture and learn that the various parts of the Bible explain each other, even the parts that are "hard to understand." - 2 PETER 3:16.

5. Get help from others.  The Bible encourages us to accept help from others who understand the Bible.  (Acts 8:30, 31) Jehovah's Witnesses offer a free Bible study program.  Like the early Christians, they use Scriptural references to help others discern what the Bible really teaches. - ACTS 17:2, 3.

Understanding the Bible-What Are the Keys?

 The Bible's answer

The Bible itself provides many of the keys to understanding it. Regardless of your background, God's message in the Bible "is not too difficult for  you, nor is it far away." - DEUTERONOMYT 30:11.

Keys to understanding the Bible

1.  Have the right attitude.  Accept the Bible as God's Word.  Be humblem since God opposes the proud. (1 Thessalonians 2:13; James 4:6) However, avoid blind faith-God wants  you to use your "power of reason." - ROMANS 12:1, 2.

2.  Pray for wisdom. "Do not lean upon your own understanding."  The Bible says at Proverbs 3:6. Instead, "keep on askeing God" for wisdom in understanding the Bible. - JAMES 1:5.

3.  Be consistent.   You will benefit much more from Bible study if you do it regularly rather than sporadically. - JOSHUA 1:8.

To Imitate Jesus, Be . . .

 ZEALOUS

It was foretold that most Jews would refuse to accept the Messiah and that his enemies would kill him.  So Jesus could easily have been self-sparing in what he did for people. Instead, he zealouly promoted true worship.  He set an example  of zeal for all his followers who face indifference or even opposition.

HUMBLE

Jesus was superior to imperfect humans in countless ways, such as in knowledge and wisdom.  His perfection undoubtedly gave him physical and mental abilities beyond what anyone around him had. Yet, he humbly served others.

PATIENT

Jesus consistently showed patience with his apostles and others when they failed to imtate his example or apply what he said. He patiently repeated lessons that they needed so that they could draw closer to Jehovah.

PRAYERFUL

Jesus regularly turned to his Father in earnest prayer, privately and when with true worshippers.  He prayed on many occasions, not only at mealtimes.  He prayed to thank his Father, to praise him, and to seek his direction before  making serious decisions.

UNSELFISH

A times when he could have benefited from some needed rest and relaxation, Jesus still put himself out for others.  He did not have a me-first attitude.  In this too, he provided a model that we can follow closely.

FORGIVING

Jesus did more than teach about the need to be forgiving-he demonstrated forgiveness in dealing with his disciples and others.

To Imitate Jesus, Be . . .

 COMPASSIONATE

As a perfect human, JEsus did not experience many of the distresses and concers that other humans did. Yet, he showed deep  feeling for people.  He was willing to go out of his way for them, to do things beyond what might seemed necessary. Yes, compassion moved him to help others.

APPROACHABLE

People of all ages -young andold-felt that they could approach Jesus because he did not  have an air of aloofness or superiority. Sensing Jesus' personal interest in them, people felt at ease in his presence.

Jesus Brings Paradise and Finishes His Assignment - Conclusion

Jesus will apply his ransom sacrifice to humans on earth and lift from them the curse of inherited sin.  He and his corulers will raise faithful mankind to perfection. Yes, humans will then enjoy the life that God originally purposed fro them when he told Adam and Eve to multiply and fill the earth.  Even death that resulted from Adam's sin will be no more.!

Note: Just a reminder, if you are not a faithful worshiper of Jehovah God and Jesus Christ, then when you are resurrected, you will given a choice of whether or not you want to follow them and their statutes and rules and learn about them and their  history, then you will given a choice; follow all they want, worship them, and learn about them; and pay attention, God will know if you are sincere as he can read  you heart, your mind. and your whole body.  If he knows  you are not sincere and do his will.  You will be destroyed along with Satan and his Demon angels. It'simple.  This reward for doing God and Christ's will, you will get perfection and everlasting life; livjng under God and Christ's new government where there is no death, no diseases, no wars, no handicaps, and no one ounce of wickedness.  And don't forget after the thousand year reign, Satan will  be let loose from the abyss to test you; and if you stay and do God's will and not take Satan's side, you will stay in Paradise. But remember, Satan his very clever and sly and will every method to trick you into siding with him.

Thus, Jesus will have accomplished all that Jehovah asked of him. At the end of his Thousand Year Reign/Rule, JEsus will hand over the Kingdom  and the  perfected human family to his Father.  Regarding this marvelous act of humility on Jesus' part, the apostle Paul wrote: "When all thing have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him, that God may be all things to every one." - 1 CORINTHIANS 15:28.

Clearly, Jesus plays a vital role in accomplishing God's glorious purposes.  And as those purposes continue to unfold through eternity, he will live up completely to the description he gave of himself:  "I am the way, the truth, and the life." - JOHN 14:6.

In order for that criminal to enjoy life in Paradise, he will have to be raised up from the dead. And he will not be alone in experiencing a resurrection.  Jesus made that clear when he said: "The hour is coming in which all those in thememoral tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to  a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment." - JOHN 5:28, 29.

But what of faithful apostles and the limited number of others who will be with Jesus in heaven?  The Bible says: "They will be priests of God and of the Christ, and they will rulee as kings with him for a 1,000 years." (Revelation 20:6) These who became corulers with Christ will have been men and women on earth.  So they will certainly be compassionate and understanding heaven rulers over those on earth. - REVELATION 5:10.

Jesus Brings Paradise and Finishes His Assignment, - Continue

This helps us to understand Jesus' words to the criminal who was on the stake beside him.  Jesus did not hole out to that man the reward that was promisd to his faithful apostle, that of part of the Kingdom of the heavens.  Rather, Jesus promised the repentant evildoer: "You will be with me in Paradise-a beautiful park, or parklike garden.   Logically, those today who prove to be like sheep and who enter  "into the everlasting life" will also be in that Paradise.

This harmonizes with the description that the apostle John gave of conditions that will then prevail on earth.  He said:  "The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe oiut every tear from their eyes, and death will be  no more, neither will mourning nor outcry or pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." - REVElATION 21:3, 4.

The apostle John foresaw in vision what lay ahead for 'the great dragon, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan.'  That vicious enemy of mankin would be cast out of heaven, "having great anger, knowing that he has a short period of time." (Revelation 12:9, 12)  Christians have a good reason to believe that they are living during that "short period of time" and that soon "the dragon, the original serpent," will be abyssed and inactive for 1,000 years while Jesus rules in God's Kingdom. - REVELATION 20:1, 2.

During that period, what will occur on earth?  Who will live here, and under what conditions?  Jesus himself pointed to the answers.  In his illustration of the sheep and the goats, hse showed what futurte awaits righteous humand who are like the sheep, who cooperate with, and do good toward Jesus' brothers. He also made clear what lies ahead for those who do the opposite, those who like goats. Jesus said:  'These [the goats]will depart into everlasting cutting-off, but the righteous ones  [the sheep]into everlasting life." - MATTHEW 25:46.

Soon after Jesus's baptism, he faced and enemy who was deterrmined to cause him to fail even before he began his ministry. Yes, the Devil tried repeatedy to tempt Jesus. Later,  Jesus said about that evil one: "The ruler of the world is coming, and he has no hold on me." - JOHN 14:30.

A careful story of Bible prophecy revealas that  "the Lord's day began in modern times.  In 1914, what became known as World War I broke out.  And the decades since then have been marked by more wars, plagues, starvation, earthquakes, other evidence marking a large-scale fulfillment of  "the sign" that Jesus gave his apostles about his "presence" and "the end." (Matthew 24:3,m 7, 8, 14)  The preaching of the good news of the Kingdom is now being done, not just in the area of the Roman Empire, but globally.

John was inspired to describe what this means: "Now have come to pass the salvation and the power and the Kingdom for our God and the authority of his Christ." (Revelation 12:10)  Yes, the Kingdom of God in heaven, which Jesus so widely proclaimed, is a reality!

With Jesus' support, Paul and other evangelizers carried on the preaching work that Jesus had started.  God blessed them woith outstanding success. About 25 years after Jesus appeared to him on the road to Damascus, Paul wrote that the good news had been "preached in all creation under heavene." - COLOSSIANS 1:23.

Years later, Jesus gave his belved apostle John a series of visions, which are found in the Bible book of Revelation.  Through these visions, John, in effect, lived to see Jesus return in Kingdom power.  (John 21:22)  "By inspiration [John] came to be in the Lord's day." (Revelation 1:10) When would that be?

"Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?"   a voice from an invisible source called out.  "Who are you, Lord?" Saul asked."I am Jesus, whom you  are persecuting,"came the reply. - ACTS 9:4, 5.

Jesus told Saul to enter Damascus and await further instructions, but he had to be led to the city because the miraculous light blinded him.  In  a separate vision, Jesus appeared to Ananias, one of his disciples living in Damascus.  Jesus told Ananias to go to a certain address to find Saul.  Ananias was apprehensive about doing so, but Jesus assured him:  "This man is a chosen vessel to me to bear my name to the nations as well as to kings and the son sof Israel."  Saul recovered his sight, and there in Damascus "he began to preach about Jesus, that this one is the Son of God." - ACTS 9:15, 20.

At Pentecost 33 C.E., the Christian congregation came to be .  From heaven, Jesus began to rule, or reign, over his spirit-anointed disciples. (Colossians 1:13)  He guided them in their preaching and prepared them for their future role.  What role? Those proving faithful to death would eventually be resurrected  and would serve as associate kings with Jesus in the Kingdom.

An outstanding example of one who would be a future king was Saul, better known by his Roman name Paul. He was a Jew who had long been zealouse for God's Law, but he was so misguided by Jewish religious leaders that he even approved of the stoning of Stephen.  Then "breathing threat and murder against the disciples of the Lord," Saul headed to Damascus.  He was authorized by High Priest Caiaphas to arrest Jesus' disciples and bring them back to Jerusalem. (Acts 7:58; 9:1)  However, while Saulw as en route, a bright star flashed around him and he fell to the ground.

 ACTS 7:56

* JESUS SITS AT GOD'S RIGHT HAND

* SAUL BECOMES A DISCIPLE

* WE HAVE REASON TO REJOICE

Ten days after Hesys ascended to heaven,  the outpouring of holy spirit on the day of Pentecost provided evidence that he was, in fact,  in heaven.  And additional evidence of that was forthcoming, just before the apostle Stephen was stoned for his faithful witnessing, he exclaimed: "Look! I see the heavens opened up amd the Son of man standing at God's right hand." - ACTS 7:56.

While with his Father in heaven, Jesus would await a specific command foretold in God's Word.  David wrote  under inspiration:  "Declared my Lord [Jesus]: 'Sit at my right had until I place your enemies as a stool for your feet."'   When the period of waiting was completed, he would "go subduing in the midst of [his] enemies." (Psalm 110:1, 2) but what would Jesus do from heaven while awaiting the time to take action against his enemies?

Hundreds See Him Prior to Pentecost - Conclusion

The apostles return to Jerusalem. During the following days, they gather with other disciples, including "Mary the mother of Jesus and . . . his brothers." (Acts 1:14) This group persist in prayer. One subject of prayer is the choosing of a disciple to replace Judas Iscariot adn thus restore the aposticl number to 12.  (Matthew 19:28) They want a disciple who has witnessed Jesus' activities and his resurrection. For the last time mentioned in the Bible, lots are cast to determine God's will. (Psalm 109:8; Proverbs 16:33)  Matthias, who may have been one of the 70 whom Jesus sent out, is selected and "counted along with the 11 apostles." - ACTS 1:26.

Ten days after Jesus ascended to heaven, the Jewish Festival of Pentecost 33 C.E. takes place. About 120 of the disciples are assembled in an upper room in Jerusalem.  Suddenly, a noise just like that of a rushing stiff breeze fills the whole house.  Tongues as if of fire become visible, one upon each of those present. The disciples all begin to speak in different laguages,  This is the outpouring of the holy spirit that Jesus promised! - JOHN 14:26.

The apostles are on the Mount of Olives with the resurrected Jesus when he begins to rise heavenward.  Soon a cloud obscures him from their sight. After his resurrection, Jesus had materialized fleshly bodies. But now Jesus dematerializes the body he used on  this occasion, and he ascends to heaven as a spirit creature.  (1 Corinthians 15:44, 50; 1 Peter 3:18)  As the faithful apostles are gazing after him, "two men in white garments" appears beside them.  These are  materialized angels, who ask:  "Men of Galile, why do you stand looking into the sky?  This Jesus who was taken up from you intot he sky will come in the same manner as you have see him going up into the sky." - ACTS 1:19, 11.

Jesus left the earth without public fanfare, his faithful followers being the only observers. He will return "in the same manner" -without public fanfare, with only his faithful followers discerning his presence in Kingdom power.

Later Jesus meets again with his apostles.  he leads "them out as far as Bethany," which is on the eastern slope of the Mount of Olivess. (Luke 24:50)  Despite everything that Jesus had told them about his departure, they still believe that in some way his Kingdom will be on earth. - LUKE 22:16, 18, 30; JOHN 14:2, 3.

The apostles ask Jesus:  "Lord, are you restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time?" He simply replies: "It does not belong to you to know the times of the seasons that the Father has placed his own jurisdiction." Then stressing again the work they must do, he says:  "You will receive power when the holy spirit comes upon you, and you will be witnesses of me in Jerusalem. in all Judea and Samaria, and to the most distant part of the earth." - ACTS 1:6-8.

Altogether, Jesus appears to his disciples "throughout the 40 days" after his resurrection.  He materializes various bodies  and shows "himself alive to them by many convincing proofs," instructing them "about the Kingdom of God." - ACTS 1:3; 1 CORINTIANS 15:7.

Evidently while the apsotles are still in Galilee, Jesus directs them to return to Jerusalem.  When meeting them in the city, he says:  "Do not leave Jerusalem, but keep waiting for what the Father has promised, about which you heard from me;  for John, indeed baptized with water, but you will be baptized with holy spirit not many days after this." - ACTS 1:4, 5.

Jesus explains that God has given him all authority in heaven and on earth. "Go, therefore," Jesus urges them, "and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:18-20) Yes, not only is Jesus alive but he is still interested in having the good news  preached.

All of Jesus' followers-men, women, and children-receive this same commission to make disciples.  Opposers may try to stop their preaching and teaching, yet Jesus assures them:  "All authority has been given me in heaven  and on earth."  What does that mean for his followers?  He tells them: "Look! I am with ou all the days until the conclusion of the system of thinbgs."  Jesus does not say  that all who share in preaching the good news will be enabled to do miraculous workds. Still, they will have the backing of  holy spirit.

* JESUS POURS OUT HOLY SPIRIT ON 120 DISCIPLES

After Jesus'resurrection, he arranges for his 11 apostles to meet him at a mountain in Galilee. Other disciples are there too, about 500 of them, some of whom initially have doubts.  (Matthew 28:17; 1 Corinthia s 15:6) But what Jesus says helps to convine each one othem that he truly is alive.

On the Shore of the Sea of Galilee - Conclusion

Peter sees the apostle John and asks:  "Lord, what about this man?" Yesm what does the future hold for the apostle for whom Jesus has special affection?  Jesus answers:  "If it is my will for him to remain  until I come, of what concern is that to you?" (John 21:21-23) Peter needs to follow Jesus without worrying about what others do.  Still,  Jesuis is indicating that John will outlive the other apostles and will be given a vision of Jesus' coming in Kingdom power.

Of  course, there are other things that Jesus did, more  than many scrolls can contain.

The third time, Jesus asks: "Simon son of John, do you have affection for me?" Now Peter may be wondering whether Jesus doubts his loyalty. Peter says emphatically: "Lord, you are aware of all things; you know  that I have affection for you."  Once again Jesus highlights what Peter must do:"Feed my little sheep." (John 21:17)  Yes, those taking the lead neet to minister to those drawn into God's sheepfold.

Jesus was bound and executed because he did the work that God commisssioned him to do. He now reveals that Peter will have a similar  end.  "When you were younger ," Jesus says:  "you used to clothe yourself and walk about where you wanted. But when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and another man will clothe you and carry you where you do not wish." Yet Jesus urges him: "Continue following me." - JOHN 21:18, 19.

Jesus gives each one of them some bread and fish to eat. Then, likely looking toward the catch of fish, he asks: "Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?"  Is Simon more attached to the fishing business than to the work  that Jesus wants him to do? Peter replies: "Yes, Lord, you know I have affection for you."  So Jesus urges him: "Feed my lambs." - JOHN 21:15.

Again, Jesus askes: "Simon son of John, do you have affection for me?" Perhaps puzzled, Peter answers earnestly: "Yes, Lord, you know I have affection for you."  Jesus' response is similar: "Shepherd my little sheep." - JOHN 21:16.

On the Shore of the Sea of Galilee

"It is the Lord!" John tells Peter (John 21:7) Quickly, Peter put on his outer garment, which he was not wearing while fishing.  He plunges into the sea and swims about a hundred yards  (90m)  to the shore. The others in the boat follow slowly, dragging the net full of fish.

Getting to shore, they see "a charcoal fire with fish lying on it and bread." Jesus says: "Bring some of the fish you just now caught." Peter pulls in the net, which contains  153 large fish! "Come have your breakfast, Jesus says.  None of them have the courage to ask, "Who are  you?" Because they realize that it is Jesus.  (John 21:10-12) This is his third appearance to the disciples as a group.

On the Shore of the Sea of Galilee

 JOHN 21:1-25

* JESUS APPEARS AT THE SEA OF GALILEE

* PETER AND OTHERS ARE TO FEED THE SHEEP

On his final evening with the apostles, Jesus had told them:  "After I  have been raised up, I will go ahead of you into Galilee." (Matthew 26:32; 28:7, 10) Now many of his followers make that trip, but what should they do in Galilee?

At one point, Peter tells six of the apostles: "I am going fishing."  All six respond:  "We are coming with you." (John 21:3)  The whole night, they do not catch anything. As it is getting light, Jesus appears on the beach, but do  not realize who it is.  Jesus calls out:  "Children, you do not have anything to eat, do you?"   They answer: "No!"  Jesus tells them: "Cast the net on the right side of the boat and you will find some." (John 21:5, 6) They catch so many fish that they cannot even draw in their net.

Did You Know? -How were years and months determined in Bible times?

The Mishnah explains that the Sanhedrin's decision was announced by means of a fire signal that was lit on Mount of Olives, close to Jerusalem.  At other high points throughout Israel, bonfires would be used to spread the news.  In later periods, messengers were dispatched. Thus Jews in Jerusalem, throughout Israel, and in scattered communities were made aware of the start of the new month. All could then observe seasonal festivals at the same time.

To understand the chart on how the Hebrew months, festivals, and seasons were all interconnected, go to jw.org, click library, then magazines and scroll down on the Watchtower Study addition June 2022 on this subject Did you know and  click to the end of this subect and you will see the chart.  I do not know how to get it on here.
