Jesus' MInistry in Perea

LUKE 13:22-14:6.

* Exertion TO GET THROUGH NARROW DOOR

* JESUS MUST DIE IN JERUSALEM

Jesus has been teaching and curing people in Judea and Jerusalem. Then he crosses the Jordan River to teach from city to city in the district of Perea.  Soon, though, he will be back in Jerusalem.

While Jesus was in Perea, a man asks: "Lord, are those being saved few?" The may know of debaters among the religious leaders over whether many will be saved or only a few. Jesus shifts the issue from how many will be saved to what must be done in order to be saved. "Exert yourselves vigorously to get in through the narrow door, he says, effort, a struggle, is required. Why so?  Jesus explains:  "Many, I tell you, will seek to get in but will be able." LUKE 13:23, 24.

To illustrate the need for vigorous effort, Jesus says: "When the householder gets up and locks the door, you will stand outside knocking at the door, saying,  'Lord, open to us." . . . But he will say to you,  'I do not know where you are from . Get away from me, all you workers of unrighteousness!" - LUKE 13:25-27.
