Does God Notice You? - WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHES US ABOUT GOD'S WATCHFUL CARE

Jesus Chris, who knows the Creator better than anyone else, taught: "Two sparrows sell for a coin of small value, do they not? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father's knowledge.  But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. So have no fear, you are worth more than many sparrows. - MATTHEW 10:29-31.

Few of us  pay attention to every small bird we see, let along notice when one of them falls to the ground. But our heaven; Father notices each one of them!  And birds -even many birds-are never  worth more to him than a human. The lesson, therefore, is clear. You should "have no fear" that God does not notice you.  On the contrary, he is deeply interested in you!

The Scriptures assures us

* "The eyes of Jehovah are everywhere, watching both the bad and the good. - PROVERBS 15:3.

* "The eyes of Jehovah are on the righteous, and his ears listen to hear their cry for help." - PSALM 34:15.

* "I will rejoice greatly in your loyal love, for you  have seen my afflictions, you are aware of my deep distress." - PSALM 31:7.

WHAT CREATION TEACHES US

The first 0 minutes of a baby's life outside the womb is a crucial period of adjustment. Why? because mothers who bond with their newborn  babies during this critical time dramatically improve the growth and development of their children.

What prompts  a  mother to care tenderly for her newborn baby?  Professor Jeannette Crenshaw explains in The Journal of Perinatal Education that an elevated level of the hormone Oxytocin "stimulates mothering feelings after birth as a mother touches, gazes at, and breastfeeds her newborn." Another hormone released at this time "helps a mother respond to her baby" and reinforces her interaction with her baby.  What is that significant?

The close bond between mother and baby was designed by our loving Creator, Jehovah God.  King David credited God with bringing him "out of the womb" and making him feel secure in his mother's embrace.  He prayed:  "I have entrusted to your care from birth; from my mother's womb,  you would have been my God." - PSALM 22:9, 10.

Consider:  If God created such a complex system to ensure that a human mother will tenderly observe her baby and respond to the infant's needs, does not not seem logical that God also take a personal interest in us, "the children of God"? - ACTS 17:29.

"Where Was God?"

"CONSTANTLY THE QUESTION COMES UP WHERE WAS GOD?" - Pope Benedict XVI, while visiting the former concentration camp at Auschwitz, Poland.

WHEN TRAGEDIES STRIKE, DO YOU EVER WONDER, 'WHERE WAS GOD?' OR IN YOUR OWN LIFE HAS A TRAUMATIC EVENT MADE YOU QUESTION WHETHER GOD CARES ABOUT YOU PERSONALITY?

Perhaps you feels as did Sheila, who lives in the United States. Raised in a deeply religious family, she says.  "From childhood on, I was drawn to God because he is our Maker.  Yet, I never felt  close to him. I thought he was watching me, but only from a distance. I didn't feel that God hated me, but neither did I believe that he cared for  me."  Why did Sheila have doubts?  She explains:  "My family faced one tragedy after another, and it seemed that God wasn't helping us at all."

Like Sheila, you may feel that the Almighty God exist. Yet, you may wonder whether he really cares about you.  The righteous man Job, who had faith in the power and wisdom of the Creator, had similar doubts.  (Job 2:3; 9:4)  After Job was plummeted by one tragedy after another-with no relief in sight, -he asked God: "Why do you hide your face and consider me your enemy?" - JOB 13:24.

Note:  Job was being tested, because the devil said that the only reason Job had any faith in him was because of the stuff that God gave him. God wanted prove hims wrong and let Satan test him and Satan was proved wrong.  Amen!

What does the Bible say?  Is God to blame when tragedy strikes?  Is there any evidence that God cares about humans in general about  each of us individually?  On a personal level, can any of us really know whether he notices us, understands us, empathizes with us, or helps us with our problems?

Note: Yes, he has let us live. The way humans act, I don't know that I would be so kind if I were him.  Think of the roof over your head, the food in your belly, the bills you able to pay, the job you have etc. Most people don't see the help he gives, because he doesn't always go by what humans think he would help. He wants us to help ourselves as well.

In the following articles, we will consider what creation teaches us about God's care for us.  (Romans 1:20)  Then, we will analyze what the Bible reveals about God's care.  The more you "come to know him" through his creation and his Word, the more you will have the assurance that "he cares for you. - 1 JOHN 2:3; 1 PETER 5:7.

Conclusion of Your Mysterious Tears

But this feeling of relief may depend not only on tears.  The way others respond to our crying also plays an important role.  For instance, when our tears move others to comfort us or to help us, we feel relieved.  But if this response  to our tears  is not good, we may feel ashamed or rejected.

Clearly, mysteries about crying remain.  What we do know is that shedding tears  is one of the intriguing emotional responses God has given us.

DID YOU KNOW

Newborn babies usually do not shed tears when they cry.  They have enough moisture  to protect their eyes, but tears appear after several weeks when their tear ducts develop fully.

THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF TEARS

* Basil Tears,  Tear glands constantly produce this clear  liquid to protect and lubricate our eyes. It also improves our eyesight.  When we blink, this fluid is spread over the eyes.

* Reflex Tears.  These tears flood our eyes when an irritating substance or particle gets into the.  Reflex tears are also associated with actions as varied as yawning and laughing.

* Emotional Tears.  These are the "human" tears that we shed when we feel strong emotion.  They contain a 24% higher protein concentration than reflex tears.

Your Mysterious Tears

CRYING accompanies us from the day we are born.  One expert explains that as babies, crying became our "acoustic umbilical cord," because  we cry to have  our emotional and physical needs, cared for.  But why, do we shed tears as we grow older, when we can communicate in other was?

Emotional tears flood our eyes for a variety of reasons.  We may cry  because of grief, frustration, or physical or psychological suffering.  But euphoria, relief, and achievement likewise provoke  emotional tears - in this case, tears of joy.  Tears can be contagious.  "If we see someone else weeping-whatever the cause - I can't help but feel moved to tears," says Maria. Maybe imaginary situations in a film or a book have also made you cry.

Whatever the reason, crying is a powerful nonverbal language.  "There are few other ways to say so much in such a brief interval," explains the book Adult Crying.  Tears provoke reactions.  For example,  most of us find tears of sadness difficult to ignore because they alert us that someone is suffering. In response, we may try to comfort or help the one who weeps.

Some experts believe that crying provides a useful outlet for our emotions and that systematically  holding back tears  may damage our health.  Other argue that the physical or psychological benefits of crying  have not been scientifically verified.  Nevertheless, surveys estimate that 85 percent  of women and 73 percent of men reported feeling better after crying.  "Sometimes, I know I need to cry," explains Noemi.  "Afterward, I can take a deep breath and see things more clearly, in their true perspective."

THE BIBLE'S VIEWPOINT -Money

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS

Use money in a way that has God's approval. (Luke 16:9)  It is wise to use money responsibly and honestly.  (Hebrews 13:18)   To avoid the burden of living beyond your means,  "let your way of life be free of the love of money." -HEBREWS 13:5.

Although the Bible does not condemn debt, it warns:  "The borrower  is a slave to the lender." (Proverbs 22:7)  Avoid impulse buying, because "all who are hasty surely head for poverty."  (Proverbs 21:5)  Instead, "set something aside according to [your] own means" and save money for what is important to you. - 1 CORINTHIANS 16:2.

The Bible encourages us to "practice giving." (Luke 6:38)  People who want to please God have good reason to be generous, because "God loves a cheerful giver."  (2 CORINTHIANS 9:7)  Therefore, "do not forget to do good and to share what you have with others, for God is well-pleased with such sacrifices." -HEBREWS 13:16.

The Untold Story of Creation -THE TIMELINE OF CREATION

THE BEGINNING

The material heavens and earth are created. - Genesis 1:1.

DARKNESS

The earth is formless, desolate, and dark. -Genesis 1:2.

FIRST DAY

Diffused light evidently penetrates the earth's atmosphere. If there had been any observer on the surface of the earth, the sources of light would have been imperceptible to him.  Yet, the difference between night and day became discernible. -Genesis 1:3-5.

SECOND DAY

The earth is covered with water and a sense material of vapor.  These two elements are separate, creating a gap between the water surface and the canopy of vapor.  The Bible describes this space as "an expanse between the waters,"  and calls it "Heaven." - Genesis 1:6-8.

THIRD DAY

Surface water subsides and dry ground appears.  The atmosphere clears up to allow more sunlight to reach the ground.  Some vegetation appears with new species sprouting though the third and subsequent creative days. - Genesis 1:9-13.

FOURTH DAY

The sun and moon become more discernible from the earth's surface. - Genesis 1:14-19.

FIFTH DAY

God creates underwater creatures and flying creatures in great numbers with the ability to procreate within their kinds. - Genesis  1:20-23.

SIXTH DAY

Land animals are created, both large and small.  The sixth day culminates with a masterpiece of God's physical creation:  the first human couple.- Genesis 1:24-31.

The Untold Story of Creation - A CREATOR PERCEIVED IN CREATION

In the mid-1800's, British biologist Alfred Russel Wallace agreed with Charles Darwin on the theory of evolution by natural selection.   But even this renown evolutionist is said to have stated:  "For those who have eyes to see and minds accustomed to reflect, in the minutest cells, in the blood, in the whole earth, and throughout the stellar universe . . . , there is intelligence and conscious direction; in a word, there is Mind.

Almost two thousand years before Wallace, the Bible had already observed: "For [God's ] invisible qualities are clearly  seen from the world's creation onward, because they are perceive by the things made, even is eternal power and Godship." (Romans 1:20)   From time to time, you might want to take a moment to reflect on the marvelous complexities found in nature-from a  single blade of grass to the countless heavenly bodies.  By examining  creation, you can perceive the Creator.

'But if there is a loving God who created all things,'  you may ask, 'why would he permit suffering?  Has he abandoned his earthly creation?   What does the future hold?'  The Bible contains many other untold stories--truths that have been buried under human ideas and religious agendas and, therefore, hidden from most people.  The publishers  of this magazine, Jehovah's Witnesses, would be happy to help you examine unadulterated Bible truth and learn more about the Creator and the future of his human creation.

The Untold Story of Creation - DID GOD USE EVOLUTION?

Many who do not believe in the Bible embrace the theory that living things emerged from lifeless chemicals through unknown and mindless processes. Supposedly, at some point a bacteria-like, self-replicating organism arose, gradually branching out  into all the species  that exist today.  This would imply that ultimately the mind boggling complex human actually evolved from bacteria.

The theory of evolution is also embraced by man who claim to accept the Bible as he word of God.  They believe that God produced the first burst of life on earth but then simply monitored, and perhaps steered, the process of evolution.  That, however, is not what the Bible says.

* According to the Bible, Jehovah God created all the basic kinds of planet and animal life, as well as a perfect man and woman who were capable of self-awareness, love, wisdom, and justice.

* The kinds of animals and plants created by God have obviously undergone changes and have produced variations within the kinds.  In many cases, the resulting life -forms are remarkably different from one another.

The Bible account of creation does not conflict with the scientific observation that variations occur within a kind.

The Untold Story of Creation - HOW LONG DID GOD TAKE TO CREATE THE UNIVERSE?

The Bible states that God created "the heavens and the earth."  This broad statement, however, makes no reference to the length involved in creating the universe or to the methods he used to shape it. What about the widespread creationist belief that God created the universe in six literal 23-hour days?  This concept, widely rejected by scientists, is based on a gross misunderstanding of the Bible account. Consider what the Bible really says.

*  The Bible does not support fundamentalist and creationists who claim that they creative days were literal 24-hour days.

* The Bible frequently uses the term "day" to designate  various periods of time.  In some cases these periods are of an unspecified length.  the account of creation found in the Bible of Genesis is one example of this.

* In the Bible account, each of the six creative days could have lasted for thousands of year.

* God had already created the universe, including a lifeless planet Earth, by the time the first creative day began.

* Evidently the six creative days were long periods during which Jehovah God prepared the earth for human habitation.

* The Bible account   of creation doe not conflict with scientific conclusions about the age of the universe.

The Untold Story of Creation - THE UNCREATED CREATOR

The Bible account of creation hinges on the fact that there is a Supreme Being, Almighty God, who created all things. Who is he, ad what is his nature? The Bible reveals that he is quite different from the deities found in popular culture and mainstream religion.  He is the Creator of all things, but most people know little about him.

* God is a person, an individual.  He is not a vague force devoid of personality, floating aimlessly throughout the universe.  He has thoughts, feelings, and goals.

* God has infinite power and wisdom.  This explains the complex design found everywhere in creation, especially in living things.

* God created all physical matter. Hence, he cannot be made of  physical elements that he himself has created. Rather, he is of a spiritual , or nonphysical nature.

*  God's existence is not limited by time. He has always existed and will always exist.  Hence, no one created him.

* God has a personal name, which is used thousands of times in the Bible.  That name is Jehovah.

* Jehovah God loves and cares for humans.

The Untold Story of Creation

BILLIONS of people have read or heard what the Bible says about the beginning of the universe.  The 3,500 -year-old account starts with the well-known statement:  "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

Many people, however, are  unaware of the fact that Christendom's leaders, including so-called creationists and fundamentalists, have spun the Bible of creation into numerous tales that  deviate from what the Bible really says:  These interpretations fly in the face of scientific fact. Even though those tales are not found in the Bible, they have caused some people  to dismiss the Bible's account as mythical allegory.

The real Bible story of creation has gone largely unnoticed. This is a shame, for the Bible actually presents very logical and credible explanation of the  beginning of the universe. What is more, that explanation harmonizes with scientific discovery.  Yes, you might be pleasantly surprised by the Bible's untold story of creation.

What Can Knowing God Mean for You?

Up to this point, we have taken progressive steps to find the answer to the question, Who is God?  We began by seeing in the Bible that his name is Jehovah and that his dominant quality is love. We also considered what he has done and what he will yet do for the benefit of his human creation.  Though there is much more to learn about God, you might wonder what doing so can mean for you.

Jehovah  promises that "if you search for him, he will let himself be found by you,"  (1 Chronicles 28:9)   Imagine the precious gift that awaits you as you search and come to know God - a "close friendship with Jehovah"!  (Psalm 25:14) What can such a friendship mean for you?

Genuine happiness.   Jehovah is described as "the happy God." ( 1 Timothy 1:11) Becoming close to him and imitating his ways will bring you genuine happiness, which can benefit you emotionally, mentally, and physically.  (Psalm 33:12)  You will also be able to build a happy life-by avoiding damaging lifestyles, cultivating healthful habits, and maintaining good relations with others.  You will come to agree with what psalmist said:  "Drawing near to God is good for me." -PSALM 73:28.

What Will God Do? ESTABLISH A PERFECT GOVERNMENT

God will accomplish his purpose for mankind and earth by means of a heavenly government, with Christ Jesus as the appointed Ruler.  (Psalm 110,:1, 2)  It is the government, or kingdom, that Jesus taught his followers to pray for in these words: "Let thy heavenly Father be sanctified, let you kingdom come, let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  -MATTHEW 6:9, 10.

God's Kingdom will exercise authority over the earth and eliminate all woes and suffering from its realm.  This Kingdom is the best government mankind could ever have!  That is why Jesus exerted himself to declare "the good new of the Kingdom" during his earthly  ministry and told his disciples to do the same." - MATTHEW 4:23; 24:14.

Out of his great love for his human creation, Jehovah God has promised to do all these wonderful things for them. Does that make you want to know him and draw close to him?   What will your choosing to do so mean for you?   The next article will explain.

What WIll God Do? ERADICATE SICKNESS AND DEATH

Everyone is subject to sickness and death today, but that will not be the case much longer.  God will soon apply the benefits of Jesus' ransom sacrifice so that "everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)  What will be the result?

Sickness will be eradicated.   "No resident will say 'I am sick.'  The people in the land will be pardoned for their error."-ISAIAH 33:24.

Death will no longer plague mankind.   "He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces." -ISAIAH 25:8.

People will live forever.  "The gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord." -ROMANS 6:23.

Those who have died will be brought back.   "There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous." (Acts 24:15) They will benefit  from God's gift of the ransom.

How will God accomplish all of this?

Note:  What they don't say here, is that God will resurrect everyone,  but he will give the unrighteous a choice to repent and have God in their life; and if they do, they will be counted with the righteous, but if not, well, let's just say, they will not be in God's Kingdom.

What Will God Do?

If you were in difficulty you would expect a friend to do something to help you. With that in mind,  some say that god is not a friend because they feel  that God is not doing anything in their behalf.  In reality, not only has God already done many things for our benefit but he will also take action to deal with all the problems and suffering we face today. What will God do?

END ALL WICKEDNESS

God will end all wickedness by eliminating the source.  The Bible identifies what the source is when it says:  "The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked on."  (1 John 5:19)   That "wicked one"  is none other than the one Jesus called "the ruler of this world," Satan the Devil.  (John 12:31)   Satan's influence on the world of mankind is the root cause of the distressing conditions on earth. What will God do?

Jehovah  God will soon take action through his Son, Jesus Christ, to "bring to nothing the one having the means to cause death, that is, the Devil." (Hebrews 2:14; 1 John 3:8)  In fact, the Bible shows that the Devil himself knows that  "he has a short period of time" before his destruction.  (Revelation 12:12)  God will also do away with all those who cause wickedness. - PSALM 37:9; PROVERBS 2:22.

What Has God Done? -GOD GUARANTEED HIS PURPOSE

Yet another of God's achievements is the special provision he made to guarantee his purpose for us. As mentioned earlier, God intended that humans live forever on earth.  However, when Adam and Eve chose to disobey God and thereby sinned. he lost the opportunity for everlasting life not only for himself but also for his future children.  'Through one  man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because they had all sinned."  (Romans 5:12)  Man's disobedience thus challenged God's purpose.  How did Jehovah react?

Jehovah's actions were consistent with his character.  He justly held Adam and eve accountable for their actions, but he lovingly made provisions for their future offspring.  In his wisdom Jehovah determined how to deal with the challenge and immediately announced a solution.  (Genesis 3:15)   The way out from sin and death would be provided through God's Son, Jesus Christ.  What did that involve?

To redeem humans from the effects of Adam's rebellion, Jehovah sent Jesus to the earth to teach people the way of life and to "give his life as a ransom in exchange for many." (Matthew 20:28; John 14:6)   Jesus could provide the ransom because he was a perfect man like Adam.  But unlike Adam, Jesus maintained his obedience, even to the point of death.  Since Jesus did not deserve to die, Jehovah resurrected him back to heavenly life.  Jesus could now do what Adam failed to do-pass on to obedient humans the prospect of everlasting life.  "For just as through the disobedience of the one man many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one person many will be made righteous." (Romans 5:19(  Through Jesus' ransom sacrifice, God will fulfill his promise to have mankind live forever on earth.

We learn must about Jehovah from the way he dealt with the challenges posed by Adam's disobedience.   We see that nothing can prevent Jehovah from finishing what he started; his word will meet with "sure success."  (Isaiah 55:11) We also appreciate the magnitude of Jehovah's love for us.  "By this love of God was revealed in our case, that God sent his only-begotten Son into the world so that we might gain life through him.  The love is in this respect, not that we have loved God, but he loved us and sent his Son as a propitiatory sacrifice for our sins." - 1 JOHN 4:9, 10.

God "did not even spare his own son but handed him over for us all," so we are assured that God will "kindly give us all other things" that he has promised.  (Roman 8:32)  What has God promised that he will do for us? Read on.

What Has God Done? - GOD PROVIDED HIS WRITTEN WORD

The Bible is also known as God's Word.  Why did Jehovah provide the Bible for us?  Primarily to read and learn about him.  (Proverbs 2:1-5)  True, the Bible does not answer every question we might have about God-no book ever could.  (Ecclesiastes 3:11)  Yet everything that the Bible does contain helps us to know God.  We see who  he is by how he deals with people. We observe the sort of individuals he likes and dislikes.  (Psalm 15:1-5)  We learn his views  on worship, morality, and material things. And the Bible gives us the most intimate portrait of Jehovah's personality through the words and actions of his Son, Jesus Christ. - JOHN 14:9.

Another reason Jehovah provided his Word, the Bible, is so that we can know how to live a happy, purposeful life. Through the Bible,  Jehovah tells us how to have a happy life, how to be content, and how cope with anxiety.  And as explained later, the Bible contains the answers to life's big questions, such as: Why is there so much suffering? What will the future hold?   It also explains what God has done to see that his original purpose is fulfilled.

The Bible is truly a remarkable book-a divine achievement-in many other ways.  It was written over a period of 1,600 years by some 40 men, yet it retains a central  theme because God is its real Author.  (2 Timothy 3:16)  Unlike other ancient works, it has been accurately preserved down through the ages, as verified by thousands of ancient Bible manuscripts. What is more, the Bible has prevailed over efforts made to keep it from being translated, distributed, and read.  Today it is the most widely distributed and translated book.  The Bible's existence is proof that "the word of our God endures forever." -ISAIAH 40:8.

Note: God intended for us, ourselves to read the Bible as you would any other  book on a subject you would be interested in reading . That is how you learn. He does not want us to just listen to what is read from the Bible, because in most places you go to worship, there are teachers/preachers in sheep's clothing and they do not fully read the Bible;just certain verses in certain places in the Bible that they particularly prefer to read.  I know this for a fact.   So, if you really want to learn what God wants for us to learn and do, you really need to read the Bible. It is the most important book you will ever need to read.

What Has God Done? - Conclusion of GOD CREATED ALL THINGS FOR OUR GOOD

The earth testifies to how God feels about us.   In the words of the apostle Paul, God "did not leave himself without witness  in that he did good, giving [us]rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying [us] with food and filling [our] hearts with gladness.'  (Acts 14:17)  God supplied more than the mere necessities for our survival.  He provided abundantly in quantity and variety so that we could enjoy life.  All of this is but a glimmer of what he intended for us.

Jehovah created the earth so that humans could live forever on it.  The Bible states: "The earth he has given to the sons of  men," and he "did not create it simply for nothing, but formed it to be inhabited."  (Psalm 115:16; Isaiah 45:18)  Inhabited  by whom and for how long?  "The righteous will possess the earth, and the will live forever on it." -PSALM 37:29.

Accordingly, Jehovah created the first man ans woman, Adam and Eve, and settled them in an earthly paradise "to cultivate it and to take care of it."  (Genesis 2:8, 15)  God gave them an exciting twofold assignment: "To be fruitful and become many, fill the earth and subdue it."  (Genesis 1:28)  Thus Adam and Eve had before them the hope of enjoying unending life on earth.  Sadly, they chose to disobey God and for that reason lost the prospect of being among  "the righteous" who "will possess the earth."  However, as we will see, their actions have not changed Jehovah's purpose for us or the earth.  First, though, let us consider something else God has done.

What Is God Like -WHAT HAS GOD DONE?

If you want to get to know someone well, it is helpful  if you learn what he has accomplished and the challenges he has overcome.  Similarly, if you want to know God well, you need to learn what he has done. As you do, you may be surprised to discover how much of what he did in the past benefits us now and involves our future.

GOD CREATED ALL THINGS FOR OUR GOOD

Jehovah God is the Grand Creator, and his "invisible qualities are clearly seen from the world's creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made." (Romans 1:20)   "He is the Maker of the earth by his power, the One who established the productive land by his wisdom and who stretched out the heavens by his understanding."  (Jeremiah 10:12)   The wonders of creation also revealed God's interest in us.

Consider how Jehovah enriched our life by creating  humans "in his image."  (Genesis 1:27)  That means he made it possible for us to reflect in a small way his incomparable qualities.  He endowed us  with spiritual capacity, or the ability to understand his views and values. As we endeavor to live by these, we enjoy greater happiness and meaning in life.  More than that, he gave us the potential for building a relationship with him.

What Is God Like? Conclusion of GOD IS LOVE

How do we benefit from God's love?  We enjoy the beauty of a sunset. We delight to hear a baby's laughter. We cherish the love of a close family member. These may not be essential things, but they enrich our life immeasurably.

We also benefit from another expression of God's love prayer.  The Bible urges us: "Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your  petitions  by made known to God."   Like a loving father, he wants us to turn to him for help with our most intimate concerns.  Then Jehovah, in his unselfish live, promises to provide "the peace of God that surpasses all understanding." - PHILIPPIANS 4:6, 7.

Has this brief discussion of God's principal attributes - such as  his power, wisdom, justice, and love-helped  you  to learn what he has done and will yet do for your benefit.

What Is God Like? - GOD IS LOVE

'God is love." - 1 JOHN 4:8.

God displays power, wisdom, and justice, but the Bible does not say that God is power, wisdom, or justice. It says that he is love. Why? Because  it can't truthfully be said that God's power enables him to act  and his justice  and wisdom guide the way he acts.  But Jehovah's love motivates him to act.  Love influences everything that he does.

Although Jehovah did not lack anything, his love moved him to create intelligent beings, both heavenly and earthly, who can benefit from and and enjoy his love and care. He unselfishly prepared the earth to be the ideal home for his human creation.  And he continues to show love to all humans in that "he makes his sun rise on both the wicked and the good and makes it rain on both the righteous and the unrighteous." -MATTHEW 5:45.

In addition, "Jehovah is very tender in affection and merciful."  (James 5:11)  He expresses affection toward those who sincerely take steps to know and draw close to him.  God sees such people as individuals. In fact, "he cares for you." -1 PETER 5:7.

What Is God Like? GOD IS JUST

"Jehovah loves justice." -PSALM 37:28

God always wants to do what is right.  In fact, "it is unthinkable for the true God to act wickedly, for the Almighty to do wrong!" (Job 34:10)  His judgments are upright, as the psalmist said when addressing Jehovah:  "You will judge the people fairly." (Psalm 64:7)  Because Jehovah sees into the heart,"  he cannot be fooled by hypocrisy but is always able to perceive the truth and make accurate judgments.  (1 Samuel 16:7)  Furthermore, God is aware of every act of injustice and corruption on earth, and he has promised that soon "the wicked . . . will be cut off from the earth." -PROVERBS 2:22.

However, God is not  a harsh judge who is eager to punish.  He shows mercy when appropriate.  The Bible says:  "Jehovah is merciful and compassionate," even toward the wicked ones if they sincerely repent.  Is that not true justice? - PSALM 103:8; 2 PETER 3:9.

How do we benefit from God's justice?   The apostle Peter stated:  "God is not partial, but in every nation the man who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him." (Acts 10:34, 35)   We benefit  from God's justice because he never shows partiality or favoritism.  We can be accepted by him and be his worshippers regardless of our race, nationality, education, or social standing.

Because God wants us to understand and benefit from his justice, he has provided us with a conscience.  The Scriptures describe the conscience as a  law 'written in our hearts,' which 'bears witness'  as to whether our behavior is right or wrong.  (Romans 2:15)  How do we benefit?  Properly trained, our conscience can motivate us to turn away from harmful or unjust  actions. And if we do make a mistake, it can move us to repent and correct our course. Indeed, and understanding of God's sense of justice helps us and draws us to him!

What Is God Like? -GOD IS WISE

"How many your works are, O Jehovah!  You have made all of them in wisdom." -PSALM 104:24.

The more we learn about the things God has made, the more we find ourselves awed by his wisdom.  In fact, there is a field of study called biomimetic, or biomimicry, in which scientists examine Jehovah's creation and borrow elements of design found in nature to enhance their own designs.  These range from a single fastener to the design of airplanes.

God's wisdom is seen nowhere more marvelously than in the human body.  Consider, for example, the way a human baby develops.  the process begins with one fertilized cell, which contains all the genetic instructions  needed.  The cell divides into many cells that look alike.  But at just the right time, the cells begin to form differently, resulting in hundreds of distinct types, such as blood cells, nerve cells, and bone cells.  Soon organ systems appear and start to function.  In just nine months, that original cell develops into a complete infant made up of billions of cells.  The wisdom seen in such design moves many to agree with the Bible writer who said:  "I praise you because in an awe-inspiring way I am wonderfully made." The human eye is a marvel of creation. -PSALM 139:14.

How do we benefit from God's wisdom?    The Creator knows what we need to be happy.  Drawing from his vast knowledge and understanding, he provides wise counsel in  his Word, the Bible.  For example, it urges:  "Continue . . . forgiving one another freely." (Colossians 3:13)  Is that wise counsel?  Yes, Research has found that being freely forgiving can improve one's sleep and lower one's blood pressure.  It may also reduce the risk of depression and do other health issues.  God is like a wise, caring friend who never ceases  to give us helpful advice. (2 Timothy 3:16,17)  Would you not want to have such a friend?

What Is God Like? -

The more we discern someone's qualities, the better we know that person, and thus our friendship can deepen.  Similarly, the more we come to know Jehovah's qualities, the better we will know what he is like, and thus our friendship  can deepen.  Of all God's wonderful attributes, four are more outstanding:  his power, wisdom, justice, and love.

GOD IS POWERFUL

"O Sovereign Lord Jehovah!  Look! You made the heavens and the earth by your great power." -JEREMIAH 32:17.

Evidence of God's power is seen in creation.  For example, when you stand outside on a bright summer day, what do you feel on your skin? The warmth of the sun.  Actually, you are feeling the results of Jehovah creative power.  How powerful is the sun?   At it's core, it's temperature is said to be about 27,000,000 degrees Fahrenheit (15,000,000 degrees C.).  Every second, the sun emits energy, equivalent to the explosion of many hundreds of millions of nuclear bombs.

Yet our sun is small compared to many of the untold trillions of stars in the universe.  Scientists estimate that one of the largest  stars, named UY Scuti, has a diameter about 1,700 times that of the sun. IF UY Scuti replaced the sun, it would engulf the earth, and extend beyond the orbit of the planet Jupiter.  Perhaps that helps us to grasp more fully Jeremiah's statement that Jehovah God made the heavens and the earth, this, the universe, by his great power.

How do we benefit from God's power?  Our life depends  of God's physical creations, such as the sun and all the wonderful resources on earth.  In addition, God uses his power to benefit humans in a personal way. How?  In the first century, God granted power to Jesus to perform deeds that were truly miraculous. We read:  "The blind are seeing and the lame are walking, the lepers are being cleansed and the deaf are hearing, the dead are being raised up." (Matthew 11:5)  What about today?  He gives power to the tired one," says the Bible, adding:  "Those hoping in Jehovah will regain power."  (Isaiah 40:29, 31)  God can supply "power beyond what is normal" to enable us to deal with or endure the hardships and trials of life.  (2 Corinthians 4:7)   Do you not feel drawn to a God who so lovingly uses his limitless power in our behalf?

What Is God's Name? - WHERE DID GOD COME FROM ?

That is a question many have wondered about. Perhaps you have too. It might be put this way:  If the universe and everything in it had to have a cause,  or a creator, where did God come from?

Scientists generally agree that the material universe had a beginning.  In harmony with this basic concept, the first verse of the Bible says:  "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." - GENESIS 1:1.

The universe could not have created itself; t could not have come from nothing. Nothing cannot produce something. If nothing existed before the beginning of the universe, there would be no universe today. Though it is hard for us to comprehend fully, an external, non-material first cause was necessary.  Jehovah God, an infinitely powerful and wise spirit being, that First Cause. - JOHN 4:24.

The Bible says of God:  "Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the productive land, from everlasting to everlasting, you are God." (PSALM 90:2)  Thus God himself has always existed.  Then, "in the beginning" He created the material universe. -REVELATIONS 4:11.

Note: In case no ones knows this or few know it, we are living  in Revelations now. So you NEED!  to get close to God and Now! , because as God has said himself:  "I am coming as a thief in the night." No one knows when.

What Is God's Name? - WHAT THE NAME REVEALS

The name uniquely identifies God.  Many scholars conclude that the name Jehovah means "He Causes to Become."  Jehovah God gave insight into the meaning of his name when he referred to himself with these words to Moses:  "I Will Become What I Chose To Become."  (Exodus 3:14)   God's name thus conveys more than his role as the Creator who causes all things to come into existence.  His name expresses his ability to cause himself  as well as his creation to become whatever is needed to achieve his purpose.  While titles may describe God's position, authority, or power, it is only his name, Jehovah, that embodies all that he is and can become.

The name reveals God's interest in us.  The meaning of God's name implies his ongoing attachment to his creation, which includes us.  Moreover, the fact that God has made his name known indicates that he wants us to know him.  After all, he took the initiative to tell us his name before we even knew to ask for it. Clearly, God wants us to view him, not as some vague and distant deity, but as a real Person, we can draw close to. -PSALM 73:28.

Using God's name reveals our interest in him.  To illustrate, you may ask someone you hope to befriend to call you by your name. How would you feel if that person persistently  refused to use your name?  In time you would likely wonder whether that person really wanted to be close to you. So it goes with God.  Jehovah has told mankind his name, and he encourages us to use. When we do, we show Jehovah that we want to get close to him. Why, he even notices "those meditating on  [or, "treasuring,"] his name"! -MALACHI 3:16.

Learning his name is the vital first step in knowing him. But we must not stop there. We need to discover the Person behind his name.  We need to learn what he is like.

What Is God's Name? - WHY GOD'S NAME MATTERS

The name matters to God himself.  No one gave God his name, he chose it for himself.   Jehovah declared:  "This is my name forever, and this is how I am to be remembered from generation to generation." (Exodus 3:15)   In the Bible, God's name occurs more often than any of his titles, such as Almighty Father, Lord, or God.  And more often than any other personal name, such as Abraham, Moses, David, or Jesus.  What is more, it is Jehovah's will that his name be known.  The Bible states:  "May people know that you, whose name is Jehovah, you alone are the Most High over all the earth." - PSALM 83:18.

The name matters to Jesus.   In what has been called the Our Father or the Lord's Prayer, Jesus taught his followers to petition God with the words: "Let your name be sanctified ." (Matthew 6:9)   Jesus himself prayed to God:  "Father glorify your name." (John 12:28) Jesus made glorifying God's name a priority in his life, and for this reason he say it in prayer: "I have made your name known to them and will make it known." -JOHN 17:26.

The name matters to those you know God.    God's people in the past understood that their protection  and salvation were linked to God's unique name.  "The name of Jehovah is a strong tower. Into it the righteous one runs and receives  protection." (Proverbs 18:10) "Everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved." (Joel 2:32)  The Bible shows that God's name would distinguish those who serve him."  "For all the peoples will walk, each in the name of its  god, but we will walk in the name of Jehovah our God forever and ever." -MICAH 4:5; ACTS 15:14.

What Is God's Name?

When trying to get to know someone, the first thing you would likely do is ask,  "What is your name?"  If you were to ask God that question, what would he say?

"I am Jehovah. That is my name." -ISAIAH 42:8.

Is that name new to you?  It may well be, because many translations of the Bible use God's name sparingly, if at all.  They often replace it with the title "LORD."  Yet, God's name actually occurs some 7,000 times throughout the original-language text of the Bible.  The name consists of four Hebrew consonants, corresponding to YHWH or JHVH, and has historically been rendered  "Jehovah" in English.

God's name appears throughout the Hebrew text and is found in many translations.

Who Is God?

Many  people say that they believe in God.  But ask who God is, and you will get different answers.  To some, God is a harsh judge, bent on punishing people for their misdeeds. To others, he is always loving and forgiving, no matter what they do.  Still others believe that God is far away and disinterested in us. Given such conflicting views, many feel that it is simply impossible to know who God is.

Does it matter?   Yes, it does.  Knowing God better can add purpose and meaning to your life.  (Acts 17:26-28)  The closer you draw close to God, the more he will love and help you.  (James 4:8)  Ultimately, having accurate knowledge of God can lead to unending life. - JOHN 17:3.

How can you come to know God?  Think of someone you know well, such as a close friend.  How did that friendship develop?  Likely you got to know that person's name, personality, likes and dislikes, as well as what he or she has done and plans to do, and more.  This is what drew you to that person-you learned about him or her.

Similarly, we can come to know God by considering the following:

* WHAT IS GOD'S NAME?

* WHAT IS HE LIKE?

* WHAT HAS GOD DONE?

* WHAT WILL HE DO?

WHAT CAN KNOWING GOD MEAN FOR YOU?

This magazine is designed to provide Bible answers to those questions. The articles will help you learn not only who God is but also what is store for you as you come into  a personal relationship with him.

12 Secrets of Successful Families - 12. Goals

WHAT IT MEANS

A goal is more than just dream-something you wish would happen. Real goals involve planning, flexibility, and good old-fashioned hard work.

Goals can be short-range (taking days or weeks to accomplish), medium-range (months), and long-range (a year or more).  Long-range goals can be reached through a series of intermediate goals.

WHY IT MATTERS

Reaching goals can boost your confidence, strengthen your friendships, and increase your happiness.

Self-confidence:  When you set small goals and reach them, you gain the confidence to take on bigger ones.  You also feel more confident when facing day-to-day challenges-such as standing up to peer pressure.

Friendships:   People enjoy being around those who are reasonably goal-oriented-that is, those who know what they want and are willing to work for it.  Moreover, one of the best ways to strengthen a  friendship is to work with another person towards a common goal.

Happiness:    When yo set and reach goals, you feel a sense of accomplishment.

"I love having goals.  They keep me occupied and give me something to keep reaching for. And when you reach a goal, it feels great to look back and say, "Wow, I really did it!  I accomplished what I set out to do.'" -Christopher.

BIBLE PRINCIPLE:  "If you wait until the wind and the weather are just right, you will never plant anything and never harvest anything." -ECCLESIASTES 11:4, Today's English Version.

12 Secrets of Successful Families - 11. Industriousness

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Cultivate a positive view of work by following the steps outline here.

Take pride in learning to do things well.  Whether you are doing chores, finishing your assigned homework, or engaging in secular work, immerse yourself in what you are doing.  Once you can perform a task well, look for ways to improve-doing it faster or better.  The more skillful you are, the more you will enjoy your work.

BIBLE PRINCIPLE: "Have you seen a man skillful at his work?  He will stand before kings; he will not stand before common men." - PROVERBS 22:29.

See the bigger picture. In almost every case, when you care for responsibilities well, you benefit others.  For example, when you are industrious about your chores, you lighten the load for others in your family.

BIBLE PRINCIPLE:  "There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving." -ACTS 20:35.

Go the extra mile.  Instead of doing just the bare minimum, try to do more than you are required to do.  In this way, you are in control of your life-doing more, not because you are forced to, but because you choose to. - MATTHEW 5:41.

BIBLE PRINCIPLE:  "Your good deed may be done, not under compulsion, but of your own free will." - PHILEMON 14.

Be balanced.  Industrious people are not lazy, nor are they workaholics.  They aim for balance, finding enjoyment both in hard work and in periods of rest.

BIBLE PRINCIPLE: "Better is a handful of rest than two handfuls of hard work and chasing after the wind." -ECCLESIASTES 4:6.
